Our metal roof has also been up for 3 years. We have white painted facia. There is no stain whatsoever. I don't see how the stain could be coming from the metal roof itself. That would indicate some kind of failure of the roof panel paint which would cause very early failure of the metal roofing. How old is the house? What kind of roof was on before? What does the company that installed the roof say?

Florantha.. Yes very chicken! Blue is really stretching it..definitely no talk of red!! Coastal..I think even blue countertops would be stretching it for me but I love the photo you posted and who knows ..maybe next time around I will go more bold ! Fori..really funny you asked that as I told my husband to save me any leftover pieces after he finished cutting the countertops. Well I just arrived at the beach lastnight and he presented a 2 inch cutting board! Thats how close we were on the other sections. Phew! It was so close. We bought 5 of the @96" long pieces of counter and there is nothing left!! So guess I will have to sand down the test samples when we are done and use those.Gifts are a neat idea! Was hoping for a larger piece for myself though. Guess he could join them when he has nothing else to do! Tceye..I don't have the catalog with me but it is probably the same piece that inspired me in the storewas they had a white washed looking sample and I showed my husband. He said he liked it but would prefer real wood.I think it was a laminate piece and had a metal trim on it. But it would have worked great in our space and saved a lot of work, so hopefully in the end we will be satisfied. update on the progress: the rest of the counters are cut but not treated and the base for the island is done. We had a white cover panel that was miscut so that is serving as a temporary counter and it looks great. Seeing it with the rest of the unfinished butcher block makes me think we will not stain the perimeter.just water lox it. I will try to take a picture on my phone and post it today. It's feeling more like a kitchen already!

I recall one time reading that to avoid a pink look over wood that some whites leave, she actually uses a gray paint and then wipes it off. Maybe not wipe so much of the paint off on your sample? It's a lovely room and with that view is bound to look gorgeous no matter what you do.

Hmmm...I have an idea. Never tried before, so please do a sample board. Disclaimer, may fail, too. Ok.... So, since whitewashed knotty pine has a tendency to come out pink, maybe using the opposite of the color wheel to counteract the pink would help. Adding the opposite color into the 1st coat of wash, then a 2nd thicker coat of white wash on top. I use this opposite color application a lot in watercolors to tone colors in my paintings which is similar process in whitewashing. Please note again, it is a concept. Please do a sample board 1st. My process before doing walls for clients.. I get 2-3 sample boards to experiment with to test the products & application before going into doing a whole wall. I highly suggest practicing on samples until application works. Then test it on actual wall, let it all dry. see it in daylight & night lights. Once it passes all the tests to client's liking, then go for it full force in confidence. It's a lot of extra steps & precautions, however a lot less unforseen problems later. Hope that helps.
