SW Extra White or Light French Gray? Knotty Pine paneling
Comments (9)I have an interesting suggestion for you. Pick up a sample of Benjamin Moore's Wind's Breath at double strength. It's a shade of warm white with undertones of grey, green, and blue. But when you double it, it's becomes a color that is at first glance grey, then grey-blue, the you see the green. Almost like a drop of aqua in a light neutral grey. Double strength is much cooler than regular strength, but it becomes different colors in different light. It also looks great with wood due to the undertones of the blue-green, and is still very light and warm, but not too warm. Just try a sample. I will post a pic tomorrow if I can....See MorePaint colors to match knotty pine ceiling
Comments (5)Joe - that’s because they are across from each other on the wheel, right? Sort of cancel each other out? My husband really wants to do an off-white on the walls for the main space and then do blue/grey kitchen cabinets and blue/grey decor accents. It’s hard to tell in this picture, but the actual pine boards are quite honey/orange colour and the beams are a red/brown. The beams will be painted a darker true brown and the pine boards are staying as-is....See MoreVintage knotty pine beach cottage makeover
Comments (1)My one issue with replacing the old ceiling with new tongue and groove is the ceiling becomes a feature wall. Do you think it is too much, too heavy looking for a room which doesn’t have a high ceiling? As you can see from your original photos, tongue and groove shows shadows, giving the impressions that the ceiling is lower than it is. IMO, put the tongue and grove on walls only drawing the eye up. When you repaint with Topsail (lovely), think about paint the molding blue as well. Just to give a bit more height to the walls. Or reverse it…which may be an idea you should consider. Tongue and groove the walls, stopping several inches short of the ceiling. Paint the ceiling and down in Topsail, then apply the molding and continue on with tongue and groove walls....See MoreI'm considering painting the knotty pine in my northwoods cabin
Comments (12)I think your ideas are spot on. <---written by a person who hasn't had a scrap of natural wood trim or walls in decades. I'm a white paint person that prefers to have my color in cabinetry, floors, furnishings and art. I'm also a person who lived in northern Wisconsin for 10 years and "selling and rebuilding" isn't as easy there as it is in other places. Little cabins sell but it's a tougher row to hoe with a large home. Large homes of any style. There are only so many buyers. It's too painful to talk about how I know this, lol. Since you have your own painters, maybe consider whitewashing the ceiling and painting the rest? If you don't like it, you can always paint over the white wash. I like the cable railing ideas....See Moresuedonim75
