Home staging...advise on interior neutral paint colors
Comments (21)We sold a house in FL in a terrible market and everyone who saw it thought it was refreshingly different from all the other "neutralized" houses on the market. I think it is important to stand out in some way, to be the one house they remember after seeing the other thirty. That doesn't mean red flocked wallpaper (probably) but I don't think neutral paint or decorating is necessarily the answer. The other thing that made that house stand out to the buyers was that it was far cleaner than any others they looked at. I have an accepted offer on another house right now in a stagnant market and I just can't stress enough how important removing the "ick" factor is. We get used to our own dirt, but to others, it is ick. Making sure there is not one square inch that would illicit an ick response is more important than choosing the right paint color, IME....See MoreMy foyer shelf is done - pic's
Comments (34)Thanks ladies, You've all been so helpful. I tend to overdo things, and also know that I have too many little things on display. You were right about the dragonfly pot Les, of course I didn't 'see' it until you pointed it out. Ok, so I went into my stash of stuff in my curios and came up with this...(the flowers are from other arrangements) Both these things are memoribilia, antiques that belonged to my Mother-in-law...a three stem vase, and a copper topped glass antique ring box. I think the ring holder looks nice with the purse and key, keeping in the era, but, did I break the rules having four things on display? All you Ladies have been great, thanks for all the imput and advise... I have a few lennox vases if you think this one is too much?...See MoreHelp me understand hardwood floor refinishing options please!
Comments (25)As stated above, mixing manufacturers can be tricky. DuraSeal works well with water based finishes because DuraSeal MAKES water based finishes. Minwax does not. Minwax produces oil based finishes that are illegal in 11 states. Bona is MUCH more expensive than either DuraSeal and most definitely more than Minwax. I am extremely pleased to see a professional reach for Bona stain for Bona Finish. That tells me all I need to know. @Design2 girl - If you are getting used to the colour (as it is) then feel free to see if a small discount can be given for leaving it in place. If you feel this is not the colour you want to live with, then you will need to have it sanded off and start fresh. A double application of stain is a NO-NO in the flooring industry. The second coat can and will PREVENT bonding of the finish to the wood! That means you run the risk of the floor pealing like a sun burn! Yep. In a few days to a few months the whole thing could slough off like snake skin. Not pretty. Personally I like the colour as it is right now. This mid-tone cool brown (not much yellow/orange) is very desirable. I would put down some satin finish over top and enjoy a very handsome floor....See MoreWhat tile to use inside foyer niches?
Comments (44)suzyq53, lol. Every house has it's own personality, doesn't it? From where I am sitting (dining room, open to foyer), I see FOURTEEN arches throughout the house. The foyer you see in the picture is an octagon shape. The man who built this house also built and lived in the house next door, and just recently moved over one more lot and built another house with...arches. Mediterranean would definitely describe the style. There are other things I would have done differently had I been building the house myself, but for the price we paid (and how it fits our family, and all the other great things about it), I'll certainly take it. ;)...See MoreVertise
