That is a great idea!! My DH broke one of a pair of lamps; I'm going to check it out to see if this is a viable option for these lamps. Better candle sticks than trash.

He was surprised when I said "now I have to buy two lamps". It didn't dawn on him that I had to buy matching lamps. Of course he suggest that I break the other lamp so they would match. If I can salvage something from these lamps, he will owe you.

Even before it was 'fashionable' I was doing the re-use, re-purpose thing....I guess about 35 years now....so I'm always so thrilled to see/read about others who have repurposed/reused something.

I love seeing creative ways to repurpose....and this lamps to Candle Holders of yours, I'm going to steal from you.

Doesn't hurt that beefy candle holders always set my heart a'flutter. *smile*

You have given us all a new accessorizing direction now!! We can justify new lamps; we can justify buying those interesting lamps we see in yard sales, flea markets, etc, even though the shade is trash, the wiring is worn out. We will just make candle holders.

That's a great idea! And just an FYI, don't throw away lamp parts. With the exception of a broken body and wiring, all of the parts can be reused to fix lamps. Donate them to your local thrift, or sell them on ebay. Some people (me) are always on the hunt for more finials, harps, spacers, bases, etc. to restore old lamps with. And I don't do it, but some people will even take apart old Bakelite plugs and rewire them.

Thanks everyone! It's fun to get such a nice response as an op. I usually just add my 2 cents to other posters. I lit them last night along with a few candles in the fireplace and it was nice. My biggest challange is blending my love of repurposing with my mid century ranch set in the woods. The home says clean lines and the woods say "lady lodge" style:)

mustangs, I do believe if you bought a new pair of lamps he probably wouldn't even notice unless you pointed it out. Nor would he notice "new" candle holders.

tuesday, I was eyeing the rest of my lamps in the house to see if I would rather see a flame than a bulb.

franksmom, I do keep most parts. I have a fondness for finials. In my previous life I was an accessory buyer, and when merchandise arrived damaged, the vendor would give credit and have you dispose of the merchandise. I of course would keep the good stuff, shades, finials, harps etc. I could usually make use of something to fix something else for the store or give it to employees. But sometimes I would have tons of parts and no takers!! (I could only use so much in my own home)
So what I am getting at is if you have a local furniture store, make friends with the buyer. He/she would probably appreciate you taking some of the stuff off their hands.

he probably wouldn't even notice unless you pointed it out. Sadly you are right. Last month he actually said "I never noticed that there is a door in the bathroom". We have live here 14 years!!! Granted, it's a pocket door but holy mackerel--I guess that's why we call him the "house guest".

Love your idea! It's cold here in Minnesota but I'm going to head out to the garage sometime today and take a new look at my stash of lamp bases.

Have you considered posting your idea on the Trash to Treasure forum? I know we shouldn't post the same thing on two different forums but that T2T forum has been so quiet. Something like repurposing the lamps to candle holders might bring some new traffic.

I was thinking last night how I would like to somehow organize clippings so that I can go back and see a particular posters rooms at one fell swoop so I have a better picture in my mind of their homes.
