If it were me, I'd paint it the same color as the trim. From my perspective since the unit is solid doors, they are being used in conjunction with the trim to "Box" in the unit. If you paint them to match the unit it could look kind of funky having the sides of the cabinet one color and top/bottom trim another color.

thanks for the reply. I am not sure you understood my question. It was do I paint the sides the color of the other 3 walls which is Gray Wisp or do we paint it the trim color which is cloud white.
Perhaps your answer is the same but I just wanted to make sure you followed what I meant.

I would paint those strips the wall colour. Since the strips don't match the colour of the Pax units exactly and aren't really trim pieces I think it would be less distracting to have them that beautiful greyish colour than adding another white in that area.

If it's drywall it should be the wall color. If it's wood it should be the trim color.

Trim color. Makes it look like the entire wall is the unit, especially as they trimmed it out with wood.

I once read somewhere that BM Swiss Coffee was a good color match to Ikea cabinets. Might be worth checking it out...

BTW, the Pax wardrobe looks great!

My first choice would be the color of the cabinets themselves. Second would be the trim color. I would not paint those two skinny strips the wall color.

i think it looks alittle odd white(ie-trim color) now...i would defintely paint it the wall color if it were mine!!

What les said! If you can match unit, that would be best. If not, trim color. IMO, it will look very strange to be the wall color. It sounds like they want it to look like one built in unit. I think unit color would best accomplish that. If there will be crown molding on top (and maybe baseboard at bottom?) then trim color would work too.

Also, it's not uncommon to paint wallboard the trim color when trying to fool the eye. For example, the faux wainscoting a lot of us have done which is just picture frame molding on wall, and the wall and trim painted trim color to fool the eye into thinking it's the more expensive panel molding.

I vote for wall color because to me it looks like a frameless unit set into the wall. If it had wood trim or a face frame all the way around, then I would say match the unit.

Yes, sorry, I did misunderstand. I thought you were referring to the cabinet color. If it's the wall color, I'd probably paint it the wall color.

Just a note, you may want to caulk the seams where the board meets the wall so the filler will blend in with the wall better once it's painted.

I think I'd go with the wall color too, and second the color of the cabinet doors. I would not go with the color of the trim.

I know in real life how different that Pax color is from white. I have a set of them in my dressing room.

Glad to learn of a color that is a good match - I have a few floor cabinets in that room that I painted white, and I don't like they way they look next to the color of the Pax cabinets.

Just to clarify , the wood that we put on each side of the cabinets to
fill in that space ony has primer on it now.
The molding and baseboards are painted cloud white, which seems to be a little to white for the cabinets.
I was out today and picked up BM Swiss Coffee and Behr Swiss Coffee.
Lisa Mocha you mention BM Swiss coffee but I read when googling that it is Behr Swiss Coffee which is the match so I got both and when I go to my daughters I will hold them up against the cabinets and see.

Sorry, I too thought the trim was same color as the cabinets. So my vote is to match the cabinets as close as possible. No to wall color.

Since it is wood and not drywall, I would match the cabinets. Just take a door to BM and have them mix the exact color, and attempt to match the sheen.

Even though it is wood and not drywall, I vote to paint the narrow strips in the wall color.

If you paint them like the trim, the color is wrong. And if you match the door/drawer front color, the strips stand out because there is no other cabinet 'framing' showing anywhere else around drawers or doors.

Cabinet/trim color for me.

Definitely the same color as the cabinets. If you paint it the wall color, those skinny strips would really stand out. So that you would notice right away that the cabinet wasn't big enough to fill the entire wall and you had to fill in the leftover space with something.
