Can't decide on combination of steam oven, wall oven, microwave
Comments (7)Here are my comments. Miele Combi Steam/Convection Oven - great choice. I would stay away from ANYTHING Thermador makes - expensive to repair, frequent repairs and poor customer service. I don't have experience with Electrolux, but the micro/oven combo I like is the GE Profile Advantium upper with a 30" convection lower (Combo is about $4,000). That Advantium oven does a MUCH better job than a regular microwave. Would not buy Viking, period, for the same reasons as Thermidor above. Viking took over the old Amana refrigerator plant. They are a great marketing company, but a poor product and service company. I'd suggest a KitchenAid 22CF panel-ready French-door cabinet depth R/F or possibly a GE Profile similar model if you're not going to put in a built-in refrigerator (SubZ et al). Miele dishwashers are great as are Bosch and KitchenAid, who now have the same type of filter system as Miele and Bosch do (they got rid of the built-in garbage disposals which make dishwashers much noisier). BlueStar Rangetop is fine. Personally I like Capital Culinarian - 25K Btu on 5 of the 6 burners and I think a 12K Btu simmer burner. Getting back to your oven situation, i'm in a remodel now where I'm putting in a 6-burner Capital Culinarian all-gas range with a Miele XXL Combi-Steam oven. No need for a 30" convection wall oven or a built-in microwave. Our microwave (which we just use to reheat beverages primarily) will be an under cabinet GE Profile model (cheap - $350). the Combi-Steam oven does a much better job of re-heating leftovers than microwaves do and it's great for steaming, roasting, baking bread, etc....See More3 ovens stacked together: microwave, double wall convection ovens
Comments (4)It's pulling hot food out of the microwave on top that will be unsafe, unless you & your family are really tall. You should be apprehensive; it's not a good idea. Microwave ovens should be positioned near the R/F, since that's the source of most food that goes into a MW. Positioning either a countertop or built-in MW on or under the countertop is far preferable for safety & ease of use, especially since you use a MW a lot. Another option is to get a range, which will provide you with one oven, and stack the MW over a single electric convection oven. Our 36" DCS range oven is huge & can handle full size baking sheets. If you have kids, they can learn at an early age to safely use the MW & start being independent, but only if they can reach it without climbing on something. Otherwise you will be doing what they could be doing far longer than any of you will like....See MoreStacking Electrolux built-in microwave and single wall
Comments (8)Google the model number of the convection microwave. Then choose the AJMadison site. The go to Specifications for the Convection Microwave. In the specifications systems it lists "Approved for Combination installation with a SINGLE Oven----YES Or save yourself the work I did, and just click the link below and it will take you there! I've had the Icon Single 30" wall oven as well as the Icon speed oven, over 6 years and they perform flawlessly, and have been trouble free. Well as Long as that "Other Guy" in the appliance threads, "Gaggs us" with "It the best oven Money can buy", I will say the same about the Elux, it has more advanced features than that "Other Oven" and the Sweedes are a lot more kind to your pocket book than whoever makes the Gagg ovens now. I believe it's BSH (Bosch) and made who knows where? The Elux's are made in Good old USA! Congratulations on your "Smart Choices"! Comments (6)@plllog--thank you for the wonderful review of the Advantium. I have been considering one, but I don't want it in my oven stack since it won't match my non-GE oven selection. I don't care for any food that is microwaved and I believe the speed cook option combines microwave cooking with the other heating elements. Microwaved chicken (or leftover chicken for that matter) is one of the ickiest things in the world to eat IMO! If I need speed but the microwave won't do, I tend to reach for my convection toaster oven with great results--even for potatoes and casseroles. Not as fast as steam, but quicker than the large oven. @huruta--how do you like your CSO? I'm trying to decide on a double oven vs. single + CSO. My concern is crisping in the CSO and cleaning it since I don't believe they are self-cleaning. I'm thinking a 48" range top with grill and griddle, plus oven combo and microwave drawer since I can't say I'm that drawn to a convection microwave for the same reason I'm not drawn to the speed oven. Am I missing something on the speed oven? Or the CSO? Or a microwave drawer vs. a convection microwave? @oliverchang10--I also like the idea of both gas and electric. I've been cooking with a gas oven for years and find I prefer it to electric, but I keep hearing electric is more precise. Can you share your reasons for wanting both? Thanks to all for sharing your experiences and thoughts!...See Moreauroraborelis
