3 ovens stacked together: microwave, double wall convection ovens

Has anyone out there tried this? We are now thinking of doing a stack of microwave (on top) with double 30 inch convection wall ovens below it. I frequently use microwave for small jobs like warming milk for coffee, heating leftovers. Also want to have two big ovens. I'm a bit apprehensive about being able to reach everything safely and easily. But we would use the bottom oven infrequently, and it probably wouldn't be any lower than the oven that comes in a free-standing range. Any advice from those who have this or have researched it? Thanks!

It's pulling hot food out of the microwave on top that will be unsafe, unless you & your family are really tall. You should be apprehensive; it's not a good idea.

Microwave ovens should be positioned near the R/F, since that's the source of most food that goes into a MW. Positioning either a countertop or built-in MW on or under the countertop is far preferable for safety & ease of use, especially since you use a MW a lot. Another option is to get a range, which will provide you with one oven, and stack the MW over a single electric convection oven. Our 36" DCS range oven is huge & can handle full size baking sheets.

If you have kids, they can learn at an early age to safely use the MW & start being independent, but only if they can reach it without climbing on something. Otherwise you will be doing what they could be doing far longer than any of you will like.

The GE Advantium is an oven and microwave. I will have one on top of a Trivection oven. It is not as powerful as a stand alone microwave, but the one I have in my current home is perfectly adequate.

My sink is a Bates & Bates. The grids came from the same company. They were expensive but we did our kitchen in 2003/2004 and I can't remember what I paid exactly. I think you will love this combination together. We still like it and it's 5 years old. We did light granite when *everyone* was doing dark, it seemed. We retrofitted new appliances and countertops in our existing 70s cabinets. LOL! They are well made custom jobs and we've never been sorry. It gave us a real updated look and allowed us to build in our refrigerator. At the time, we had only Viking and Sub Zero to choose from. Now others are making cabinet depth refrigerators. Still, we're glad we did what we did. Our entire 'update' cost around $14,000. We feel like we got a lot of punch for our DIY dollars. It's much better than the hideous floral wallpaper and harvest gold formica, sinks and appliances. (The kitchen was seriously harvest gold everything!) LOL!

We have double ovens (Thermador 30" convection) and use both very very frequently. We also have a cheap small counter microwave and use the minute+ button exclusively - for the occasional reheating, defrosting, melting: never cooking. This past Saturday we had two families over for dinner. Home made pizza for five kids (both ovens on three stones) to get the kids fed then plated dinner for the six adults including roasted root veggies, fresh focaccia, baked dessert (all in the ovens). My wife and I actually uttered the words "can't imagine going back to a single oven again". Really. Sure we could survive with a single oven - but I often utilize two. And this is my first house, and my first good kitchen - I've only had cheap econo 30" gas or electric ranges my previous 40 years so it's not like I've been spoiled. Even when not using both ovens at full tilt, I'm often using one at warming temp or for proofing dough - you find productive uses for the extra capacity. It's your money, and your cooking style, but give it careful consideration - because two ovens can be a great thing to have. And microwaves - they kind of suck for 'cooking' - so maybe look at a more versatile appliance if you don't go with the second oven. Good luck.

We're getting the Wolf Combi Steam + Wall Oven. Haven't used them yet (a broken granite slab is pushing the install dates back), but our plan is that we'll probably use the steam oven most of the time, and the big oven just for holidays, or when we need a second oven or the broiler. Again, not speaking from experience just yet, but my understanding is that we'll probably use the steam oven for a lot of things that we currently do in the microwave (like reheating leftovers). My wife has never been a big microwave fan anyway, so we'll probably just continue with our small countertop model. I would personally rather leave out the drawer microwave and invest that money in a full-size traditional oven. I don't think Wolf ever said that their steam oven has broiler like capabilities. They do say that they can somehow brown the outside of meat with a combination of heat and steam. As long as you'll have at least one oven with a broiler though, I don't see that the lack of a broiler on the Wolf should sway your purchase decision. Finally, keep in mind that the Wolf 30" steam oven is really a 24" oven with a bigger faceplate that matches their traditional ovens. It only goes up to 450 degrees as well, so I'm not sure that your pizza stone will do you much good.

Search the archives. This question comes up regularly. In general, many people see the benefit of having more than one oven, but few people need three or more ovens. This is a little different, if you make some of these ovens have special features. In other words, your choice of a double walloven seems rather unusual. But having a steam oven and a microwave (or better a speedoven) is quite useful, if your budget allows you to do so. These usually all are 24" devices. That's fine, as it doesn't take up unnecessary large amount of real estate and as it pre-heats much faster. But depending on what you cook, you might still need a fullsize oven in your range. If you don't need it, then a range top is a better choice.

I know what you are saying about needing three separate ovens. There are times no matter how fast and flexible an oven is, two will not work. Sadly, the placement position of the stack of three ovens may not be as convenient as you hope. I wanted to do this to make more efficient use of space, but when I actually positioned the ovens in the stack, the top oven was higher than could be used safely. Maybe you are taller than my 5'3". I suppose you could do a pull-out step in the toe-kick, but I wouldn't want to misstep with a hot dish in my hands. It just doesn't seem safe.

That said, a MW drawer, full size oven and a smaller oven may be enough shorter that it would work. Unfortunately the smaller dimension of a smaller oven is width not height. Good luck!

We have had our microwave on top of double ovens all stacked above one another for 28 years.

the bottom oven is pretty low so i can easily put items in and out of microwave. love it this way.

we are remodeling our kitchwn and want it the same way. the microwave is also a oven so i need to find more info on this. not a fan of microwave over range.
