As if this process is not stressful enough? Can you bring them in the house? Another room? I don't know about your cabs but mine were not elevated in packing material. The storm surge forecasts do not look good for us, not to mention 94% humidity. Sending good vibes your way.

Is it possible to verify that the cabs are not sitting directly on the garage floor? Or have you been evacuated?

Thanks for all your good thoughts--please continue to send them our way. There are so many cabinet boxes and they take up more than one bay of the garage. Even if I could have someone come and move them now, I don't even know where they would all possibly fit. DH says if the garage floods then the rest of the house would be similarly affected and the cabinets would be the least of the damage. But I do wonder if our homeowner's policy would cover them if they are damaged. I'm just so mad at myself! I should have kept the Monday delivery date!!!! I know I should worry more about a tree falling on the house but this does make me anxious. Just got a call from our town emergency services saying 7 AM will be the time for the killer winds and do expect prolonged power outtages.

I have three trees that seem eager to fall into my home tomorrow. One would smash the front of my house, if it fell. The other, my office. The third, my sunroom or living room. All have been recently and expensively decorated (we just moved in last September, so we're not even here a year yet).

I spent the morning debating whether to board up the tree-facing windows, but decided against it because the 1920s trim doesn't give a good place to screw in the plywood, and I was worried I'd do more harm than good.

If no tree falls, I'll be very grateful. If one or more does, it will be awful.

But I know that you and I have done everything we reasonably could. And once we do that, there's nothing else to be done. What happens, happens.

take those receipts and put them in a safe dry place too.

I do hope that all of you in the path of this storm. First an earthquake, and now a hurricane. While I tend to think of earthquakes as non-events because I was born and raised in So Cal and never lost so much as a dish in almost 50 years, hurricanes seem much scarier.

I wish you all the best. Ultimately, your safety, the health and safety of your family - this is what is most important. Hopefully, by Monday, you can all report back that everything is fine.

sandbags around the cabinets?

DH here. We're fine.

We were in the same situation. Building an addition and storing cabinets throughout addition and gutted kitchen. No kitchen for 2 months and needed to store laundry room cabinets in my parent's house two doors up. We live in Delaware and had the earthquake earlier in the week, and hurricane, flooding and tornado in our area last night. What a week. Fortunately we were all safe and no water damage and the new addition held up just fine. Now if I could just cook. Hope everyone else were safe and damage free.

DH again here. Storm gone, all well, bone dry, power on. Thanks for all your good thoughts. Hurricane sex great!

Well I thought DH would find this site interesting and proof that I'm not alone with all the obessing I've done about the remodel. I never dreamed that he would start posting himself!

You know, once many years ago there was an infamous blackout in New York City. The infamous part was all the babies born 9 months later.

Okay, now that everything is safe, here are some pointers for the future.

If you can, have pallets to place that kind of delivery on (there are places that rent them), or concrete blocks, or anything that'll keep them off the floor. a half inch of water could irretrievably damage the cabinets, but by the time there are six inches you've got plenty more to worry about than the cabinets.

Also, it's easier to flood a garage, with a ground level entry and no sill than a house. You can keep out the water with sandbags. If the water is rising to the level of your doors as well, sandbags help there too.

Marcolo, I don't know how this is done, but I've heard of a way of anchoring trees in liquified earth. Don't know if it works either, but it's a thought...

Thank you all for your kind words and for helping me get through a stressful weekend! All is well. They started the installation and a few of the upper cabinets are there. I'm so very relieved!

I'm in the midst of a kitchen reno and I have a ton of stuff in my garage, including a $9000 range. Well, Irene dropped a tree on my garage. Luckily it was a small tree, maybe a birch, that landed across the roof and not through it. I still haven't seen it, since we're out of town. I was reassured by my contractor and the counter top guy who was onsite templating. Neither of them were tech savvy enough to send me a camera pic. The suspense is killing me.
