This is so subjective! My sister loves those big retro multi-colored lights outside and has those '60's bubble lights on her tree.

My best friend does everything in pink.....

I am a fan of the white mini lights, in and out. No blinking.

I don't believe there are rights or wrongs. Display what makes you happy!

I like normal size, both inside and out. I like white lights on the tree, but outside I like either all white or red and white.

Pet Peeve: People who leave their outside decorations up looonnnng after Christmas is over and some who leave them up all year, albeit, not lit.

Amck- Pink, wow! I would of never thought about that. Now that would be a memorable yard!

Blinking... that is a good point, some people like blinkers.

I know there are no rights or wrongs (especially at Christmas) but I just wanted to hear what everyone thought and maybe get some ideas. As you can tell, it is time to replace strands again!

I do have to admit to being of the new age - who says old dogs can't learn new tricks. I prefer all white mini lights on my indoor tree and a mixture of mini multi colored and mini whites together. I think the white lights make the multi colored ones seem brighter. I also like it when someone has some things in all red and some in all green.

I do not like purple, orange or hot pepper light strings!

I was thinking the same thing. I much prefer the large C-9 style lights for the exterior. They are much easier to hang straight, and of course they are brighter. The mini lights look good on trees and bushes. Most of the homes that I have seen with the mini lights on the house look sloppy, the lights are usually uneven.

I do like the mini lights on the tree in the house.

I like 'em all as long as they are neatly done. I hate to see any color that is haphazardly done and also are still on the house in July. We use colored lights on the indoor tree and white lights on the outdoor trees. While I'm not crazy about blinkers, I do like some movement on the inside tree, so I use a few ornament rotators to hightlight some favorite ornaments. I also have to say that we discovered the "Light Keeper Pro" on this forum and DH is in "Love". After working for a week on one strand of lights, he got it working in one click after I bought that tool.

Tiny white lights inside and out ...... with the odd lot of them flashing away just to drive my DH crazy!! LOL!!

Mini-lights.

Clear/"white" outside and multi-colored on the tree. I was TOTALLY committed to the "white" ones until the helpmeet returned home with multis to replace a few burned out strings. I was skeptical for about a day. Now I LOVE the multis! I haven't seen the "big" bulbs since I was a little kid (pre- 1970), but I'd be fine with them, too!

I'd like to find "minis" in a less strident color than the "clear/white". They look harsh to me... the "soft" white of the "big" bulbs was easier on the eyes. IMO!

Do any of you remember the bulbs that looked like flames? the were as tall as the "big" bulbs, but they were slender. They were white at the base and tapered up to point, and the points were tinted orange... so when they were illuminated they looked like flames?! (how old am I?).

Chelone, I don't recall the bulbs you're talking about. I'm 51 and I had the same reaction to the "normal" bulbs that caroleoh and terriks did! I grew up with the big colored bulbs, inside and out. I have the fondest memories of them, but have never used them in my adult days. I always use the mini whites, non-blinking. I love them in town when shop windows are lit up, and the leafless trees have either them or green minis on their branches.

I don't want to insult anyone, but I have two pet peeves: the front yard "deflatables", as my husband calls them, and extravagant light diplays that don't pull off being magical.

I like lights. I'm not particular about the color so long as they are done neatly.

Personally, mine are mostly small clear lights. But I do have many multicolored chili pepper lights- some on my "christmas cactus" and in my kitchen. I also have a fuschia tinsel tree that is decorated with pink flamingo lights, pink mini lights, and pink flamingo ornaments- I couldn't help myself:)

One of my neighbors has a row of large multicolored lights across the roofline of his house, with white icicle lights directly hanging below. That looks really cool.

I'm so old (52) that I recall when mini-lights were called Italian lights, and in addition to big bulbs, we had long tubes that would bubble. Yikes!

Outside I use the big bulbs - alternating blue and green. My husband was able to pick out our house flying in today. Inside I have a pre-lit tree with small white lights.

SMall and white - everywhere and all the time :)

I like the little white lights. Twinkling is nice, too, but not too much/busy :)

Don't like colored bulbs in the front lantern or the larger colored bulbs (they're nice for kids, though, I suppose :)

Actually, if I had kids I'd probably ask what they would like :) Maybe even if it was an inflated reindeer or Santa! Although I'd try to talk them into something prettier :)

Multi-color icicle lights outside (they make the house look so stinkin' happy!!) and small multi-colored on the tree (must confess that neither will get done this year). I do enjoy looking at all the whites in the neighborhood though, they are very elegant.

I like to see the icicle lights, too! And little white lights on a wreath can be pretty. And of course, candles in the windows!!

You know what those darn lights should do? They should twinkle like squirrel said. All the technology out there and the dumb things just flicker on and off!

I think I've seen them twinkle. Maybe it's just a strand or two scattered in the bunch. Although as you move around, they appear to twinkle :)

Here they are. Every fifth light twinkles on a strand. How sweet is that!

I'm old enough to remember they were called Italian lights, too! I actually prefer the larger bulbs because it's what I grew up with, but my husband and I have never had them on our tree! I'm also wondering if any of the 'geezers' like me (47) here also remember the different colored metal reflectors used with the big bulbs that were in shapes like stars, etc. My mother loved them and insisted on using them on her tree through her last Christmas still in her home (2005)--definitely gave her tree a very 1950's flavor!
