Something with more weight would be more in scale with the bed so yes, wider and 'heavier" for the lamps. And perhaps a bit taller too, but definitely wider/heavier.

How about wall sconces instead of lamps? That would leave more space on top of your bedside tables, and the sconces could be mounted a little higher. Something with a little iron in it would tie things together. Check out http://www.lampsplus.com/Products/Sconces/Style_Iron/

Hi Roseabbey, was looking at these lamps again and it hit me that the shape of the lamps is perhaps too similar to the bed posts...something rounder and with a different shape would be more pleasing to the eye IMO.

I agree that something with 'more weight' as fillagirl said, would be better. The topper looks great, btw.

I like the topper, but I think it needs to be raised up maybe 4-6 inches. It needs some 'breathing space' where it meets the headboard, and I think it would be more effective in filling the space if it were up a bit taller than the bedposts.

I think you need some lamps with curves, rather than thin ones that echo the bedposts. I am a fan of the wall-mounted lamps and swing-arm lamps, so that would be one choice.

I could also see something like this:

The lamps you have now look like they're Buffet Lamps. Definitely a fuller lamp or the wall sconces, but then you'd have to hire an electrician to put them in, right?

Do sconces put off good reading light?

oakleyok, I dont know if scones put off good reading light but I dont want scones there anyway, I want to replace my lamps with lamps. You mentioned my lamps look like buffet lamps, what is the difference between buffet lamps and bedroom lamps...just the height? I came across this page about buffet lamps being used in every room.

lamps that are weightier for sure all over and perhaps matching the iron look of the wall hanging in its finish. buffet lamps are usually less wide and about the same height as you see , maybe a bit taller. I have buffet lamps and they look pretty much like those you have now. I think what the posters mean though is that you have a more meaty look with the room and bed and need to compliment it better with wider lamps. There are a lot of cool lamps out there now. Even try Homedecorators.com there is a lamp called celestine that might look cool.

I really love Robert Abbey's double gourd lamps. I think the shape is classic and they come in a lot of different colors.

When I first bought those lamps I thought it would look good to follow the shape of the posts and didnt look too bad without anything above the bed, but now with the iron topper, I agree they need to be a different shape and more weighty.

Oopsie. I like your first lamp you posted, the idea of the black base never occurred to me, and yes the shade needs to be more of a creamy or gold color. Thanks for the idea.
