how to paint new entry doors
Comments (2)A local automotive shop has painted our doors--some at his shop and once on-site at our home. He prefers at the automotive shop due to the dust & wind-free environment and a more even coverage. However last year we had a new prepainted door with sidelights installed. It did get marred in one spot during installation--it was heavy & cumbersome, plus it was a replacement door & did not fit the brick opening well (snug in some spots-loose in others). Then I did not like the color & had it repainted. The auto guy came and sanded it down onsite and taped off the surrounding area and it looks fine....See Morenew entry way needs some windows
Comments (8)Aw, thanks awm03, yes, we designed it around the door (vintage, picked it up at a garage sale for $5) and the transom, which came from an auction. A fabulous company in NNY, Vintage Doors, took our drawings, the door and transom, and fabricated the sidelights and porch panels. There are single pane windows in for the winter and screened panels for the summer. fallingwaters, nope, we're not on Paradox Lake, but I do know it well (used to drive from BTV to Albany, NY all the time), it's a beautiful area. Here's that close up, exterior: Interior (kinda dark, sorry): sandyponder...See MoreNew Art Deco front door transom dilemma. Need ideas. Pics posted
Comments (19)Why not just paint that upper white part the same blue as the door? That will provide same or similar visual effect as your original door. Keep it simple. If you put a header on it, its going to clutter it up and draw attention to it and make the space look more awkward, not less.... besides being a total stylistic mismatch to the house and the door. I dont know if Id put anything in there at all - just blue to make it all look like a single, unified space. If you are replacing the sconce, get one thats simple, discrete, and doesnt draw attention to itself The door itself (is all the style statement you need to make. Its a simple, boxy brick house with a stylish blue door. Thats all you need - boom, done. Sometimes less is more....See MoreNEW DOOR! I need a new door. This one barely opens. It's from 1949.
Comments (29)We just painted our front door SW Oceanside. It was SW Mosaic Tile previously and while I loved that color, I wanted an update. The Oceanside is more blue-green than teal. We got a grey storm door so we painted the sidelight trim SW Iron Ore. My brick is red and the rest of the trim is white. Sorry I don't have a pic yet. This is from the SW website. I love how it looks with the grey stucco (I know you don't have stucco but I love the color combination). Edit - we also considered SW Marea Baja for the door but the Oceanside was a bit brighter....See Moretibbrix
