Need help with decorating for Christmas

For several years, I've decorated for Christmas using pink. Although my husband says he doesn't care that we have a "pink Christmas" and for me to decorate however I want to, I know he probably would really prefer a traditional red and green Christmas. I have tons of pink stuff to decorate with, but very limited amounts of red and green.

I found a beautiful red tablecloth yesterday at the thrift store. It has a band of green ribbon around the top and has embroidery on the corners. My combined kitchen/dining area is decorated in pink...pink counters, pink curtains, etc.

How can I make this glaringly red tablecloth work in a pink kitchen/dining area? Is there any way to tie it all together so it looks nice?

Pink, red and aqua is a popular color theme right now -could you bring some aqua or turquoise in?

Wow, that red and turquoise is so pretty together! I never would have thought of that combination, but I like it. I'm not sure how DH would feel about it though since he's more of a red/green person. I really just want to make it a bit more traditional for him.

If you don't have xmas collections of your own, I hope you have a christmas tree shoppe near by or some other low cost high selection tchotchke store near you. Or hit up family and friends to share theirs. The holiday houses I've been in are crammed with xmas stuff....something in every room, and I agree with alex that more is more. For the table, a nice grouping of something ... anything...will be great, provided you have height with it. So a row of cone-shaped white or gold trees of various heights....or a passel of candles in various candle holders of matching material like all silver or all glass ... or a tall xmas decoration on a cake plate to get some height. Typically there are xmas type place settings as well with red glasses or whatever....ribbons around the wine glass stems, christmasy napkin rings.... Rather than put a bow on the upholstered chairs, I would put a bow on the top backs of each of the wooden chairs. Take a fat ribbon and start on the top left of the chair back...ribbon goes down and under, across the slats on the backside of the chair and up the other side in the front. Criss cross both ends and staple to the center back of the ribbon on the back and let the tails hang...that gives you a base to attach a large bow to. And of course all this needs to be color coordinated so it gives an even larger impression for your large room.

Look at all that snow!!! How pretty that is just by itself ;-) It depends on your budget, but I could see two wreaths hung above the garage door on either side of the window, or from the carriage lights to the side of the garage door, and one on the front door of the house, or a nice floral arrangement. Your house has nice lines... outlining the roof line in white lights would look nice. You could also wrap the columns in lit garland. Don't know what you have or if you want to buy, but I have a 3-ft tall old world Santy that would look awesome standing left of the front door. A smaller Christmas tree would look nice there too. If it were me, I wouldn't mess with the trees, but you might think about the bushes, especially the one that looks like a Christmas tree. I have yucky boxwoods that I put white lights only on the top of so it looks like snow on them, LOL! It usually doesn't happen here around Christmas time (I'm in Texas). As for the windows, you could hang snowflake ornies with ribbon from the inside tops or this looks easy and inexpensive... Here is a link that might be useful: Felt snow in the window...

I think as long as you don't use the traditional dark green, you can definitely make it work.

I like red, green and pink together. You probably just need to add more green into the mix to balance the red and pink. The green could be from real or faux evergreen materials, maybe for the centerpiece.

Geokid, I like that red/pink/almost lime green color used together. I did a red and lime tablesetting for my grandsons a couple of years ago that turned out really pretty.

Fun2BHere, I'll try decorating the table using some faux greenery that I have and mix in some red and pink balls.

If you could find a ribbon that combines red, green, and pink and make bows for a table centerpiece it might make it all work. If you cannot find a ribbon with all 3 colors then use solid ribbons in the 3 colors. Use natural (or faux) greens, and pink and red in flowers or other decorations in the arrangement. Also add some red and green in a couple of other areas to tie it all together.

You could also buy small poinsettia plants in red, pink, and white and group them together in a cachepot with moss on top. That would nicely tie all the colors together.

Please post a pic of whatever you do to show us how it works.

Luckygal, thank you for the suggestions! I like the idea of using ribbon to tie it all together and the flowers. I'm going shopping today and will see what I can find.

AnnieDeighnaugh, those poinsettias are so pretty! I love the combined colors and I think an arrangement of them on the red tablecloth would be gorgeous. I do have some faux pink and white ones already. I tried to find some red ones today, but no luck in finding any that looked good. I guess I'll have to try this weekend when I go shopping out of town.

Susieq07, your home is beautiful! I love the soft pink and blue together. My aunt gave me some red ornaments that she had left over, so I may try adding them in with my pink ones in the living room. That way, I won't have the pink/red in just the dining room. Thank you for sharing your photos. I haven't been over to Holidays for a while...I can see I need to visit soon!
