What a lovely kitchen! I think a green would look great against those cabinets, or even the same cream you have in the adjoining room. I agree that the present wall color is too similar to the cabinets.

What color is that above your cabinets? It looks creamy on my monitor. How about using that?

I agree about seriously thinking about continuing the cream color in your kitchen to that wall. The reasons I see for doing so is because the cream looks very nice against your cabinets and the floor, it would give continuity between the two areas, and it shows off your beautiful wood ceiling and beams in a way that I don't think an olive green would.

pale yellow. I thought of using that (it is also the same color in the hall you can see to the left of the orange wall) but will that be sufficient to tone down all the orange in the room? I was thinking I'd need something very not-orange, if you know what I mean.

Because you aren't thrilled with the very warm wall color, I would consider doing a neutral, but one in the cooler spectrum.

Your lovely stone has range to it, you're using stainless, and you have the white subway tiles, a cooler neutral would make the the kitcken more dimensional, IMO.

Do you have a closer pic of the tile?

BTW, what is the name of the orange it's painted in, now?

I think olive green would maybe drag the whole composition down, unless I'm thinking of the wrong shade. I rather like the orange, even though in theory it should be too similar to the cabinets. I'm not sure why - maybe because it's offset by floor, countertops... but something about this space works for my eye. The fall palette certainly seems to be working.

I have the same color and style cabinets. I like the creamy color also. I did go with Butter from Restoration hardware. It has an orangish tint in it but very creamy yellow. Goes well with the cabinets.

yellow that is in the rest of the kitchen and the hall. Parma42, I don't remember the name of the orange paint; it's kind of sad, because I really love the color, and it makes artwork pop, but at the same time, the table kind of fades into it.And here is the best shot I have of the tile and granet:

I LOVE the 20:01 post by squirrel - 3rd pic down - earthy - it blends all the elements in the room. It works best, is easy on the eyes - It says warm, inviting where I think the blues/grays - are cooler

"dressing" the wall - I think a big distraction is the flat panel TV on the wall & the wall is sloping - It is popping & I don't think you want it to. The wall is difficult in the sense that it is impossible to center things on it - perhaps a vertical grouping would help offset the TV. If it is permanent I would find a faux front - artwork or cabinet same as trim in the room to make it blend

I would go with a buttery creamy color, something in cream with a subtle yellow to it. Beautiful kitchen btw.

I stand corrected; that medium olive looks good. This is a perfect project for photoshopping as there is just the one wall! Still not sure I like it better than the orange, but it does look good.

One aspect of the olive that I like is that it provides some contrast to the other two walls you can see through the doorway - with most of the other options the effect is that of layers of beige.

A change of light fixture might also improve the overall look.

Lucky you, to have (had, I presume) a grandmother with such good taste in furniture!

it is to much easier when I can actually see it. Parma42 - the tile is a travertine "Tuscany Gold". And jejvtr - yes the slope and the TV are making me crazy, but I can't change either (DH does most of the cooking, and likes to watch TV, so ...)When I get it painted, I'll post new pictures (and then I'll be trying to figure out how to hang artwork!)

I like the light olive from the photoshopped series. It seems to pick up colors from the floor, the granite, and the stainless. My second choice would be a soft buttery cream. The browns and the EK cognac are not doing anything for me.

The kitchen is wonderful, and I love the orange wall (but not with the rest of the kitchen). I am planning to paint our sunroom Farrow and Ball's Orangery.

I think orange would clash with all those wood cabinets. My sister has paprika in her kitchen but she has all white cabinets.

If you are thinking olive...take a look at Ben Moore's Tate Olive.

Another vote for a buttery cream or latte (with some green undertones). The colors above make the floor tiles too yellowish.

I think the sandy color/olive will look nice (great job whoever photo-shopped.) If you do like things in the orange family though, and from what I can see of your floor tiles there is a great BM color called Metallic Gold - which ironically is NOT Metallic or Gold. It is more of a earth tone terracotta color. I have it in my living room in the house I moved into last year (painted by prev. owners) and I love the color. I can't upload a photo b/c I'm on a work computer and don't have one at home.

Perhaps get a sample of that. I think it may do well with your floor tiles but not sure about the counter top.

hey boxerpups, do you have a specific name for that grey taupe paint in the last picture you posted? I love it! Have been looking for something similar-

tomatotomata, I also vote for the color you already have above your cabinets- it is very subtle and would really let your other aspects of your gorgeous kitchen grab the attention (cabs, granite and floor)

What about a vivid turquoise? A really deep (not quite to teal) color that's directly opposite orange on the paint wheel?

A butter or cream would be very pretty with your cabinetry, but I don't think it's going to alleve the orange, due to the high contrast. It seems like you like a good bit of color on your walls, too, from the rest of the house. A yellow wouldn't seem like a good idea to get away from it, either -- yellow and orange would be more of the same effect, as a very hot, orangey palette, I think.
