While everyone may not agree, I really like the rug in your room.

The green pieces are great and add a nice aged look to your room. You don't have to follow all the 'rules', for size of patterns, when talking about a rug, in your kind of setting. I think having that rug in your room will tie in your bedcovering and furniture with a more eclectic look rather than having a stripe, solid or other more conventionally expected design.

One of my favorites was just on the cover of Domino a few months back. They had scattered two older looking rugs on top of each other. Both were patterned.

While I don't get good colors on my older computer I do love the style of the rug with the bedding set. I think it is worth asking DH to bring the rug up from the basement. Not sure I would use the drapes if you use the rug. This coming from a' less is more' window treatment person.

I think it's worth trying because the rug is very pretty and the colors seem to go together. Perhaps solid drapes might be a better idea than the stripes, just to give the eyes a rest. Some solid pillows on the bed in appropriate colors might also help to tie your scheme together harmoniously.

Yes, I do like the rug a lot. I also agree the striped drapes might be too much in the room. Cream drapes would work very nice with the ble walls.

Boop, I just wanted to say welcome back. I've missed you! Based on the pics above, it looks like you are settling into your new home nicely. BTW, I love the dresser.

I like the rug with the wood flooring. I like the Art Deco/ Art Moderne furniture with the rug. I like the antique painted piece with the rug.

I do not think that the pink and blue bedding is going to go with the style of the furniture or the rug. It is too country looking and too pastel. It is too detailed and busy for the clean lines of the Art Deco pieces and not really the best choice for the painted piece. It doe not go with the rug. You did not get the bedding yet. I would keep the rug with the furniture and look for other bedding.

Hmmm, well I might have to have him bring it up. Maybe I will get to wash the bedding tomorrow and that will give me another look at the room before I bring it up. Thank you for all the responses so far! I appreciate it.

Just to be clear - I DO have the bedding. I picked the blue in the room to go with the bedding. I did busy on purpose :) 4 cats that yes, sleep with us and yes, tend to make messes :( and a first baby on the way and I thought busy the best bet so I dont lose my mind and have to get new bedding in a month.

By art deco/modern dilly_dally do you mean the furniture in the room with the rug? I am pretty sure that is the only deco furniture in the pics, and I won't be using it in this room. I don't think the painted furniture or the dresser in the second picture is deco or modern, I think it is too ornate for that.

So the bedding stays. The furniture stays. The wall color and flooring stay. :)

The drapes and rug are the optional in this particular room. I like the idea of cream drapes. I was afraid the rug might be too much with the busy bedding, that is why I am hesitating.

I'd definitely try the rug -- it'll either look really fabulous, or it will conflict too much with the bedding.

If it doesn't work, I was going to say you could just return the bedding. Since you're using the bedding, hopefully the rug will work out (or your DH will have the workout hauling it back to the basement!)

I think it would work, tho the style of the rug seems a little mismatched with the country bedding. However, instead of dragging up the rug, can't you just take a piece or two of the bedding (perhaps the skirt since that will be closest to the rug, and then a patterned sham) and take those down to the rug and see if they work at all?

OK, sorry I misunderstood. I thought the mirrored dressing vanity next to the bed in the photo was being used in the room and the chest of drawers with cabinet doors.

:) Good idea Les. That would be a way to rule it out right away anyway if it looks terrible. I dont know. the more I am thinking about it/sleeping on it the more I am thinking it might not work.

I am trying for a more eclectic look as Parma pointed out so well. As Dilly_dally noted, there is a lot of red/pink in the bedding. It is actually more red than pink. I think.

My original idea was to hang this:

over the bed and to use scatter rugs like these:

about the room. I just have to find them. :) I think I am just having trouble with this new house still. I thought it would be easy once I got rid of the huntergreen carpet and orange walls in the MB. What were they thinking???

But the dark trim and my more ornatish furniture is still throwing me. I do want a more casual/relaxed feel in this house which is the complete opposite of my last very formal house and I am not sure I can pull it off!

I think it's worth a trip to the basement if the rug has been rolled up for any length of time...just to be sure moths haven't been dining on your lovely rug. ;-)

I would still try it.

There is blue in both the bedding and rug. You could layer your smaller rugs on top of it, bringing the pink/red into the mix. Though it's still not necessary to match everything, that closely, in my mind. Cool look, though.

Don't ba afraid of pattern.
