NHB and WSG your homes are beautiful. I wish I had pix of when I decorated the outside of our home the first year we lived here. I've not done it since.
I know this isn't our home, but it sure makes one think of a White Christmas. I took it November 22nd in I-80 in Northern Cali just before we were turned around because of no chains. Though we gained a day of travel to avoid this storm it was well worth seeing the beautiful snow covered trees. Truly a winter wonderland.

Since the Twin Cities has had three feet of snow this season I am not concerned about not having a white Christmas. No way is it going to melt. I probably won't get to decorations in the front of the house due to Snowmageddon :-(

I have a dog decorated in snow! He has no issues with snow or cold temps. The other night it was 20 below windchill and he didn't want to come in. No pic of the other dog. He is much smarter.

What beautiful snow pics! Unfortunately (although some of you may think that's a debatable point), it's been unseasonably warm here lately. Today, for example, it's 61-degrees! But, here are a couple of pics from previous snows.

This is one side of our house. It's shaped like a boomerang, and is difficult to photograph the whole thing in one pic. The red things hanging from the posts are chile ristras (strings of chile peppers). Along the walkway from guest parking are farolitos, also referred to as luminarias. It's a tradition here in New Mexico to put them out on Christmas Eve, lighting the way for the Christ Child. I have a long pine garland around the front door, a big goat pot filled with red poinsettias next to the front door and a wreath on the fireplace in the corner there, but they're not showing up very well in this pic :~(

And, directly across from the fireplace (called a kiva fireplace) is one of my favorite statues, wearing a lovely mantle of snow here.

The good news is that we may be getting more snow again tomorrow.

Thanks for asking newhomebuilder ... we're getting there! Slowly but surely. Just a few last things to be dealt with now: glass for the shower, vanity top, deck railings, etc., but otherwise it's more or less finished, other than all the little painting jobs I need to finish up. I think the contractor's part of this will be done by Jan. 1 for sure.

Lynn, what's the altitude your at? Do you get much snow or just a dusting that's showing in your pretty pictures. We were at 5,000 ft when I took the pictures above. The snow started somewhere between three and four thousand feet.
Thank you WSG.I wish I would have thought to roll down the window before taking the second picture. It was the best of all I took that day. Most had rows of cars, trucks and semis in them.

This is last winter. We don't get snow until usually March ! But this year we have had freezing temps since before Thanksgiving and when it was 61 in NM it was 20 here and we had flurries !! We had 3 mornings that were in the teens this week. It will be 60's by tomorrow and then back to freezing by the weekend. Crazy weather. The pics you all have posted are so pretty.But Kelly that puppy...what a treat !

Oh my gosh, that dog is too funny!! Mine won't even go outside if there's snow on the ground.

declansmom - Lovely window box. we have the same taste in Christmas colors. My wreaths also have the burgundy, and have fresh magnolia in them, although you can not see it with them being snow covered.

I went out and snapped this last week. It was the first snow of the season . We'll have a lot more by tomorrow. May all your Christmases be white!

No snow here yet. We had a blizzard last Christmas Eve and it took us an hour and a half to travel 20 miles on Christmas morning!

Here's a picture of our road after a small blizzard earlier this year. We live on an east-west road so if the snow is blowing we can sometimes be snowed in for a few days until the grader makes it out this way.

Well, we got some ice during the night. Schools are closed, but the ice is turning to rain with the temp going up to the 40's today. Looking forward to getting out of the house this afternoon.

I am in Florida and our cold is now 28 degrees with frost on the roofs,plants and some ice. But no snow. I am from New England originally. So love seeing the beautiful snow pictures. Have to say the dog in the snow my favorite. Thanks all for sharing.

Anyhoo, here is another snow pic. (Need to give the other one some GW time.) This one I used as a Christmas card a few years back. It is snowing (again) today so I might need to get out there for a photo op.

KK....oh those pretty pups. We had a collie when I was growing up. I went through some old family photos from the early 50's and found some pics of Shep, as he was called. Don't have a scanner or I would post. He was a huge collie ...don't know what they call the largest ones...and he had the longest longest nose , very elegant and a sweet disposition.

All the pics are so so pretty...love NM for sure but was never there in the snow. Lynne, your scenes are really beautiful too.

Here is another view from last winter....that is a dogwood in the foreground. We have rain today and tomorrow and much warmer...40's.

Oh Caroline, I love pics of trees that have snow stuck to the branches. I just looked at my little dogwood (which I purchased a few years ago after I saw pics of yours.) Nothing. Snow isn't sticking to it today. Shep sounds like a gem. Even though it is so sad that our furry friends have such shorter lives than humans, it is great to have the memories.

You had me remembering about Shep. I was slow to walk and Momma told me that he used to let me pull up on his fur and stand and then he would walk really slowly and let me hold on for balance. He was quite a protector of us. c

The reason we added on a new room which led to extensive remodeling also, is so we could build a huge cooking FP because we lost power for 21 days during an ice storm!

oakleyok - 21 days... WOW!

The lights started flickering yesterday morning, so I turned on the gas fireplace (which is lighted by an electric switch) just in case the power went out. We did have several thousand around our area - including my daughter - without power. We have underground utilities and I think that helped.

Thanks kitchenkelly! I took all of those pics from my car. The last one of Frosty is tinted a bit. The lake into our neighborhood is now frozen.

jillinnj - Lot's of snow. I am sure you had a lot of limbs down. Did I already mention that I beat the ice out of my magnolia yesterday?

OH NHB...those are amazing. My DS1 and DIL were in TN, Maryville for almost a year and had a little snow. Now they are in Lexington VA and they are having a lot of snow there. We are headed up there for New Years Eve at their new restaurant and I am excited to have snow on a limited basis LOL. I love your pics.

Oakley...I can't even imagine 21 days...give me gas heated fireplaces in every room ! I don't blame you for the cooking conversion. I have a gas top cooktop for the same reason. And the water heater may be gas but the pump is electric...aaarg...no bath !!! Need that hot water to fill the tub, so glad we have the cooktop.... and candles...oh wait that was the other marriage thread...:) c

Trail, we had a generator so we were able to use hot water, the fridge, one or two lights at a time, computer and space heaters. But it sure wasn't fun keeping that thing gassed up for all that time.

Oh, I couldn't use the microwave or stove, too much power, so we used a crockpot and a little table top burner.

Once we lost our power and it was obvious it wouldn't come on anytime soon, I practically ran to a hotel and came home 3 days later when dh had it all set up. LOL

So far we have had only a light dusting, but are expecting a big Nor'easter on Monday.

Trailrunner - I'm VERY close to Maryville, TN!! I'm actually in the same county and we don't get alot of snow either. HOWEVER, this December is very strange!! We got s dusting of snow last Sunday and we also got the same ice that NHB had, but it was gone by late in the day. Hubby and I went out around noon.

I also live close to NHB but just far enough to miss much of her bad (Smokies) and I think that protects us. We have a generator and have never used it at this house. Gas fireplace here also, so we are okay if we happen to lose power.

Sandy - I missed your post somehow. I think I started typing a response to the others, and got interrupted to fix DH's breakfast. The golf course still has snow, so he cannot play. He is driving me crazy today.

Anyway, what beautiful scenery!

NHB: it is fine dining and the most special part is the farm to table aspect. Almost all of his suppliers are a few minutes away. Meats, poultry and vegetables, cheese etc all come from right in the area. He is thrilled , to say the least. You can check their blog on the website and see his latest menus and the wine dinner menu. He actually went to the farm that supplies the ducks and geese and he and the owner did the slaughtering right before Thanksgiving. He was able to get tons of fat from the ducks and is in " confit heaven" LOL.

tina: we travelled up there to see them several times in the year they were there but not in the dead of winter. We loved the area. I am really looking forward to seeing the beautiful scenery of his new location. c

Here's the house, I forgot to post it last time. Maybe next year we will finish painting the trim on the half round window and put the cedar railing up, then it will be DONE (on the outside, that is).

trailrunner - Sounds divine except for the slaughtering part. Our neighborhood has several Canadian Geese that fly back and forth everyday over our house. We often dine at our club just down the street. One of my favorite appetizers is Foie Gras. The chef teases me a lot and says that all they have to do is go down to the lake and catch a goose. I hate it when he says that. :(

Snow started falling Christmas night. I think that counts since there apparently hasn't been a white Christmas here in about 50 years.

MIL bought us some outdoor decorations, so we will have more next year. Also, curb appeal is major project for 2011.

Christmas Eve it was in the mid-50's, and we actually used the Weber charcoal grill to cook the beef tenderloin!
