Do all window tx have to match?

I am setting up our baby girl's nursery which has turquoise walls and all white furniture. Currently all the windows in the house have maple colored 2" faux wood blinds. Her room would really look better with white blinds; however, all of the other rooms look great with the wood. Our house has painted white trim and doors (there is no trim around the windows though), but the furniture tends to be medium wood and painted black except her room.

I hate the idea that her room will have the only different treatment and that it might look weird from the outside (her room, the guest room, and the master bedroom can all be seen at the same time from the backyard.)

I could change the blinds to white in the other rooms but they are done with warm woods and fabrics, painted BM Manchester Tan. I have a hard time imagining that they would look OK with white blinds, but since the trim is white maybe it would be OK?

Am I overthinking this? Do all of your window tx match to a certain degree, or do you just decorate by room?

Personally, I don't think they have to match. I have both white and wood in my rooms, along with relaxed roman shades and silhouette blinds in my bedroom . But that's just me. My home looks pretty and I don't expect it to be designer perfect. I think your daughter's room will look beautiful

You spend far more time in your house than any single passer-by does looking at the outside. Use what works in the room, I say.

I think I will go with the outside mount blinds idea. Do outside mount blinds look sloppy to you? For some reason, I keep having that worry, that they will look sloppy. The more I think about matching the curtains on the FD to the window curtain, I just don't like it...too match matchy for me. Yet putting something different there (curtain) doesn't seem right, either. We only close that blind on the window at night, for privacy. any affordable place for woven woods? Remember of course that this isn't a permanent irrevocable change. If anyone wants to turn your house into a museum, they will have to change whatever you put in anyway and it won't be hard. Knobs are like wall paint. They aren't permanent. (I admit I looked high and low--and ended very low--to find knobs to match my original small brass 50s mushroom knobs. But I like them!)

For the front-facing windows in a formal traditional house, I'd say 'yes', they should match. But that's not the case here.

Though I've got to say, light maple blinds sound like they'd be lovely in a turquoise and white nursery.

I do like to have my home designer perfect....mind you, the cat, dog, four year old and DH seem to have gone to the blind school of design so this isn't often possible but I do try heh heh

I think it's great you're worried about how things look from the outside. Most totally ignore this and you see such crazy mismatched goober in the windows it interupts the flow of the house on the outside. This is why I always line drapes with light fabrics, so that there is some harmony in the view. BUT!! Big but :) I don't try to make sure everything is exactly the same from each window. Teal in one window, raspberry in another, and yellow in the third is horrible. White and wood tones...that's not an issue at all :) It will look fine!

OK, this is making me feel better. I am having a hard time making decisions lately (8-month pregnancy hormones, I think). I got a great deal on some white blinds from JCPenney ($36 for a 47" wide blind on super-duper sale) so I will try them out at least. Since they were cheap, I ordered one for the guest bedroom too to see how it looks, but I won't stress if I don't like it. Whew!

Sweeby - I REALLY wanted the maple to work. I incorporated several baskets, colorful fabrics, etc, to see if that made the maple have context, but they still look weird to me. A better decorator might make them work... I will try to post a picture as soon as I get the valance finished and hung. Everything about the nursery makes me smile but the window right now.

As a mom of 3 grown children, spend your next month of pregnancy getting rest, destressing, and giving yourself some pampering.
When I look around I can see that my home probably has many designer faux pas. But money and time hasn't allowed me to get things perfect. Yet, my house gets compliments all the time because it is warm and inviting. YOu will have alot more things to stress about than the color of the blinds being perfect or looking right from the outside. If you like it, do what you want and then let it go. Having children puts the important things in life in perspective. Enjoy what lies ahead and focus on that. The nursery will be beautiful regardless.
