Wood hood off-center on wall, would it look like a bad design?

Does anyone have a wood hood that is not in the center on a wall full of cabinets (no windows)?

I posted a layout a couple weeks ago where everything looks perfectly centered.

Went back to the KD to see if we can fit my second oven and move the microwave from the island to the upper cabinet next to the refrigerator. It is possible, but the range and the hood have to move to the right (towards the back). So the hood would be off-center on that wall.

Can't post the layout, DH went on a trip and took the camera, but it would go like this (odd sized made possible by custom cabinets):

36" fridge-27" cabinet for 24" m/w - 25" cabinet - 36" hood - 25" cabinet - 21" diagonal corner cabinet

The good-looking layout:

36" fridge-34.5"cabinet-42"hood-34.5"cabinet-21" diagonal cabinet

Now I am once again torn between the look and function.

Like the function of the second oven and a small microwave in a wall cabinet, but very unsure about the look of the wood hood off center.

Ugh... sometimes i feel i will never be done with this kitchen layout, but i know we are "almost there"...

Could you use a smaller microwave & tuck it on a shelf over where the diagonal cabinet is?

How does the second oven fit in with your plan?

The second oven would be in the island where we had the microwave on the first plan.

We thought about putting the microwave into that corner cabinet but it is our only corner, want to keep it clear of appliances.

I think that you should only consider sight lines. In your case everyone will be coming in the door and presumably looking dead ahead. you'll get the most bang (since I assume you'll have some fabulous fixture in your entry) if you centre the lights on the door. Also a centred light viewed through the transom windows above a front door is a great warm greeting from the street (if your door is surrounded by glass). I went through the build process recently myself (moved in two months ago) trust me, you can't over think this stuff. There are tiny details all over the place now that I wish I had given more consideration. They don't spoil the experience of my new house, it's not that bad, but they do draw my eye in over and over and over. One of those niggling issues is my dining room light fixture which is centred on the dimensions of the room per plan, but does not account for the fact that the dining room opens to both a hall and my foyer so visual appears much bigger.

If you take out that one wall, there is still the issue of where to place the bed. Do you have measurements or a floor plan of the suite? I wonder...what if you actually extended the right-hand wall, and moved the doorway to the left? Then you could place the bed with the head against the wall. Or...how long is the wall between the bedroom door and the little niche? Is it long enough to be a doorway, and close up the existing doorway? From the way light falls, it looks like there is a door to another bedroom just to the left of the MBR door, is that right?

If you didn't want to go full-width like Anthony's example, VentAHood and others have duct covers that will let you mount the wall hood then use an off-set attachment and a little angle if needed to get you to that opening, then hide the odd angle/offset. This shows a 12" cover but I'm sure there is larger, and a box of matching custom SS in the size you need is an easy custom order. I think whomever did this, did not have much budget to work with. A hood is there. Use it or consider to get that 99 dollar drop down installed at the correct height, and remove some upper storage as similar to the idea regarding cabinets posted above here. That said, if you have to hire it installed, cabinets removed, dry wall repaired(or just cover the holes up with a flat piece of stainless or even pressed tin ceiling tiles all the way to the top of the existing cabinets(they are not expensive)used as a backsplash behind your 99 drop down hood.....<https://www.americantinceilings.com/f1/>, the stainless version. If you are on an inside wall, and have to get code inspected etcetc in the city...probably still going to cost you 1500 I would expect in my area.... IF it is vented thru the roof, and you will want it to be, truly! Maybe you will get by with less, just know that making it vent thru your roof, if the existing one does not, will cost more than that possibly... and than there is the roofing /new water leak potential. No code inspector would allow that installation you have, imho, so maybe you are in a rural area. If you hire someone to help accomplish this, make sure you hire someone who can address the drywall, electrical, venting, roofing and tin ceiling tile as a backsplash.(An updated home I know of used that as a backsplash and it looks very nice with the gray tones of the counter and the black kitchen appliances. There are other stamped patterns in this price range, so you can find something you like better perhaps?) Otherwise you are looking at a bevy of home improvement people, but I think it will look much more appropriate and be an asset to your kitchen when done. Just really make sure you get someone who has a brick and mortar store or a local excellent reputation, not a 'chuck with a truck' from "won't be in business next month", and don't pay them in advance for their work either. I hope you can find a way to make it look nice and work better also.

I think if the 25" cabinets are recessed and perfectly symmetrical it will work. So bring out the MW cabinet and pull the 25" cabinets back to clearly distinguish them from each other.

My wall with range and refrigerator is not centered, but the two cabinets that flank the range are identical which helps and they are both set back from what touches them on their right and left.

My cooktop and hood are not centered on the wall. They do line up with the window on the other side (which is basically cented on that wall, but the walls are not even) and the center of the island and light fixture over the island.

My wall is 33" DO cabinet -- 48" bake center (48" base and 45" upper)--42" hood -- 24" micro drawer base with 21" upper above.

About 24" of the 33" oven cabinet is setoff against a 24" deep wall of cabiunets perpendicular to it. There is an open doorway there, so no corner cabinets. I think it all looks balanced because of the relationship between the walls, window, etc. In a different room, it might not work as well.

I think it would be a good idea to bring out the microwave cabinet.

No, I looked at what I have and there are only parts -- nothing that shows the whole thing and the balance. I even went to see if I had the sketch. I might be able to get that later.

My hood is not centered on my wall either:

(36" pantry on left side cut off in this picture, but you can see it in the next ones)

As long as your design is balanced, symmetry and centering really is optional.

also remember, few of us in real life can stand back and see the entire kitchen in a single "eyeful."

I'm a "function rules" kind of person--while I like a kitchen to lovely, I think it is first and foremost a WORK room.
