Painted paneling looks great! Now how about a beadboard ceiling?
Comments (1)Too groovy to who? To you? I dunno and I think you wouldn't have asked unless you thought maybe so, right? Too groovy for resale? Depends on the buyer, but maybe. Here's another idea, though. How about covering your ceiling with the paintable wallpaper that looks like a tin ceiling? Now, someone just showed us her beadboard wallpaper ceiling and it looked great, but she said it takes, ideally, four people to get wallpaper to stick on the ceiling. There are other patterns available in the painted wallpaper too. Why not snoop those online and see if any catch your eye? Another option is to spackle your ceiling smooth, paint it, then do stenciling in the corners. Or... did you look at the ceilings thread in the Gallery?...See MoreBeadboard wallpaper?
Comments (41)Hi Oceanna, LOL - sometimes I get stubborn and don't ask for help! Don't ask me about the time that I thought re-sodding a lawn would be simple (you have no idea how heavy grass can be) Here are my thoughts regarding the paintable wallpaper. I don't think that it would withstand high traffic/heavy use areas where there would be the potential for dents and cuts. I have mine in a guest bathroom and am currently installing it in the adjoining bedroom. These rooms are only used occasionally. However, it is a rather inexpensive experiment - I think that I only paid $25.00 per double roll at Creative Wallcoverings. You could order a sample and play around with it. I also think that the durability would depend on the quality/type of paint that was used. I used a flat wall paint because it was what I had on hand. I would think that in an area such as a kitchen, a satin or semi-gloss would be a better choice. Regarding the installation - I glued/nailed the chair rail right over the wallpaper without any problems. I did not remove the baseboard; just papered the wall with about 2 inches extra hanging at the bottom. Then, using my razor and the wallpaper smoother, I simply cut the paper to fit. I changed the razor after 2 cuts - they get dull very quickly. Just let me know if you have any more questions. I have learned so much from everyone here and I am glad that I can contribute something. Diana...See MoreIs bead board considered country?
Comments (31)sheesharee - Thanks for the offer but I called Home depot and they have some paintable wallpaper in stock that is puffy, so i can get the idea. Also, Southerns website showed a good photo of the product before painted. igloochic - My kitchen needs to be lightened up, so the stained look would not be for me. I think your idea would work, though. That would be a neat and different project for someone to take on. A study, maybe? :) Thanks lyban! I am bored...that's why! lol No, I just thought it would add a little texture to the space, that's all. All this hype on the paintable beadboard projects sparked my interest. I, so far, have not had to clean the backsplash in my kitchen. I guess I am a neat cooker. Even the mirror stays clean for the most part. The other area doesn't even get food near it unless I am serving a buffet. tinam61 - We don't have any wallpaper either, and I swore I would never have it again! lol However, I don't have the tools or the know-how to cut the wood. The wallpaper seems like an easier project....See MoreBeadboard wallpaper vs. MDF?
Comments (16)I saw the bead board wall paper yesterday. Infact it had lots of different styles. When walking past it I began to think about the sides of my cabinet and sides of my island and thought...this would be perfect there. So that's what I plan on doing too. I can't wait to see your project finished. Oh and my island has no water and the stove sits in it, no seating in my island. I would probably do the mdf board if i had searing under my island. Same with the side of my cabinet. No water over there either. Love the statement,,really what do you have to loose by trying it. If it gets all mucky in a couple of years..change it...See Moremoonkat99
