Does bead board = country?
Comments (11)It can reflect a few different styles, but contemporary is not one of them. One of the tricks folks use to give something traditional a more contemporary edge is to change the proportions. An example of this is baseboards. My sister's contemporary-styled home has baseboards that are several inches high with no flourish at the top (just beveled). My traditional-styled townhouse's baseboards are maybe 2 inches tall with routed tops. Totally different looks. Not that you are looking for a contemporary look. I just use this as an example of something just being more firmly one decorating style than another. I can continue to add contemporary/stainless decorating tweaks to my home, but it'll still be traditional in the eye of any prospective buyer (regardless of my limey green powder room and kitchen). I just can't imagine any tweaks you could do to bead board to make it not look country....See MoreWhat paint color for wall above bead board?
Comments (2)We are almost finished renovating a house with knotty pine on the lower half of the living room walls. The previous owners had painted the top a mellow gold, we replaced it with BM Grenadier Pond, a sage green. If the link doesn't work: Go the BM site, click on Personal Color Viewer, click on the photo of the mirror, choose Living Rooms and Sitting Rooms. Scroll through the sample photos until you get to the Bold Touches photo. There's a knotty pine armoir in the photo. You can play with wall color until you get one that you like against the pine. Have fun and post pictures. Here is a link that might be useful: Wall color and knotty pine...See MorePics of bead board ceilings anyone??
Comments (1)Beadboard paneling was commonly used for porch ceilings and soffits in the Victorian era. I don't see how you could go wrong with it in a Sun Room. I would run 3/8" or 1/2" thick wood or PVC paneling perpendicular to the beams if possible, trim the edges with a quarter round and paint everything the same....See MoreBeaded board
Comments (11)I just had two porch ceilings done with beadboard last fall. On the sun porch, we used wood individual planks. Unfortunately, they were idiots and didn't tell me the boards had knots. When they painted the boards, Sao came through - an unholy mess. They had to sand and the use a shellac sealing primer and then 2 finish coats. It ended up being expensive but looks great. After that debacle, I bought Azek vinyl bead board for the front porch ceiling and then had my DGS paint it (it could have been left unpainted but I wanted ceiling to be Haint Blue). It looks great but the Azek is not cheap. Those panels that are supposed to look like beadboard are really pressed cardboard and look awful and cheap....See Morehomebodymom
