What I like best about mine is having one. Period. But I also like that it is large enough to fit a large pot or colander when needed, small enough to give me plenty of space in my island counter and my cabinet underneath. Mine is about 15x15 or 16x16 and seems a good size for me. I would go a little bigger, but not smaller --especially if you are putting and instant hot at the prep sink. Mine has a corner faucet (with pulldown sprayer -- don't forget spraying for rinsing veggies, etc.) with soap dispenser att he opposite corner. An instant hot there too would be a bit cramped, especially if you also have an air switch there.

I was just looking at a 14x14, but maybe I'll hold out for larger. How deep is your sink? My prep sink will go on a wall run of cabinets. Planning a wall mount Kohler Karbon faucet, a hot water dispenser, soap dispenser on the counter, and an air switch if I can fit it in. I'm hoping the wall mounted faucet will leave room for the remaining.

I love my prep sink. I ended up getting a sink grid after since I like to wash/rinse my fruits and veggies in there. I have a pullout sprayer faucet, an airswitch and a soap dispenser. Mine measures 20 3/4 by 18" and it's 7 1/2" deep. (We have a really long island, so I don't feel like I sacrificed too much counter space.)

Put your hands down in the model sink at the store and pretend you are peeling a carrot vigorously. If your knuckles bump, it's too small. :-)

I agree with everything Lascatx said, and have a sink approx that same size. Would be glad to go bigger, but not smaller. Not only knuckles but colanders need to fit...Largest pot, too, if your faucet can't swivel to fill it while it sits beside. I'm not a fan of stainless, so mine is Kohler porcelain over cast iron.

Mine is keyhole shaped (Kohler Bordelaise, white enamelled cast iron). I love it! The bowl is 16" diameter and as deep as my colander. I like to use the grid in the bowl though, which raises the top of my colander to an inch above the 3cm stone. Turns out that's a perfect height.

I love the trough for cleaning vegetables. It works like the high part of the Stages sink. The veg and peelings are at hand level and easy to get at. The sink is on the edge of the island so I can use it from two sides. It's easy to drain something from the side in the bowl area, and to brush whatever from the island surface into the trough.

Based on advice from GW I sized my prep sink based on the size of my most used "larger" pot and my colander. My is a round, 16" across and 7-8" deep ss Ticor. I'm very happy with it - don't really need anything bigger.

Ours is 18" round, 9" deep, dark pantina copper, with a garbage disposer attached. I absolutely love it! It has a pullout faucet, an airswitch, a soap dispenser, and a filtered water dispenser. I was worried it would be too crowded with all those accessories, but I think it is fine--especially since the button for the A/S is almost flat to the counter. I use my prep sink all the time. It fits my colander, largest stockpot, DH's mongo thermos, and the bucket to fill the bird baths. It is in a 21" cabinet on our 6 foot peninsula.

I would not want to go much smaller.

Mines a 15"x18" rectangle, and I love it. It has fit everything I've used it for. I especially love the grid. I wash a lot of veggies in it, and the grid comes in very handy for that.

Sorry, just saw your question. I think mine is 9 inches deep. If you are going to have your prep sink in a wall run, you have other options for your switch -- the wall -- obviously, cabinet to the side - maybe underneath, tilt out (will mean a greater set back from the edge which can be less comfortable for working) -- maybe others. You can also do a batch feed disposal if you need to simplify things at the sink.
