Bowl-Shaped Bathroom Sinks: Simple and Stylish
I have always found that the toughest thing about bathroom design is trying to figure out a way to fit everything you need into a space that is usually quite small. One of the things I've learned over the years is that a smaller bathroom sink makes it a lot easier to create the space that you need.
The best type of small sink that I've discovered is the bowl-shaped sink. This isn't just your typical sink that's sunk into a cabinet. Instead, it sits atop the cabinet. This leaves the entire cabinet space free for you to use. Plus, the smaller diameter of the sink leaves a lot of counter space for you to clutter up if you need to.
The function of these bowl-shaped sinks isn't all that appeals to me, though. I really like their style as well. A lot of them look like handmade pottery bowls from exotic countries which can really improve the design of the bathroom. Options for glass bowls and other materials leave room for a more modern bathroom design. Either way, it's a little bit different and a little bit impressive.

Here's an example of a traditional sink that has been adapted to fit a more bowl-shaped style. The sink itself sits above the cabinet space leaving ample room for storage in the bathroom. The bowl is small which leaves a lot of counter space for you to use. Plus I kind of like the clear style that lets you actually see through the whole sink. It seems like it would create some neat design effects!
I like the photo above but this one is more the style I was talking about when choosing bowl-shaped sinks. Doesn't it look like earthenware from another country? And it still leaves lots of cabinet space below it since it sits on top of the cabinet instead of within it.
I really like how this bathroom hints at nature. The bowl has that clayware feel to it. The wall looks like rocks. The colors are drawn from the earth. I think that the storage features beneath the sink could've been more earthy (wicker instead of metal, perhaps) but I do like the function of that space.
Not everyone is interested in the style of the clay-like bowl. Another option is the glass bowl-shaped sink. I love the beautiful blue here! I think it would look a lot better on a tiled cabinet than a wooden one, though, don't you?
This is another example of a glass bowl which highlights a couple of great features of this type of sink. First of all, you can use a really cool backsplash to create a distinct decorative piece for the bathroom. And second, a bowl-shaped sink leaves room on the counter even when the counter space is limited.
A metal bowl is another option which can give you some really cool ideas for decorating in the bathroom. In this case, the whole sink area is an interesting cabinet with built-in storage. However, I think that you could do something even better with an eco-friendly slant using repurposed metal for the bowl-shaped sink.
Here's another style of bowl-shaped sink. This one is flatter and shallower. With this design, you really draw attention to the beauty of the cabinet since the sink isn't overwhelming the space.
This example shows how a bowl-shaped sink can really serve as almost a piece of sculptural art in the bathroom. When complimented with cool vases and other sculptures, you create a space that is truly artistic.
This is kind of a cool design that takes its cues from the bowl-shaped sink. This one seems to be more about style than function since there isn't cabinet space underneath it but it does leave room to add shelving nearby if needed.
This is a great example of how a small sink can be separate from the storage unit of the bathroom and yet be integral in its design. This great bowl-shaped blue sink stands on its own. Since it takes up so little space, there is plenty of room for that tall storage shelf in the corner.
