Please help with tile selection!

HELP!

I need to decide on the tile for my fireplace in advance of my kitchen going in. I would like it to compliment/coordinate (NOT match) with my the kitchen as both areas are open to one another. The catch is that I still have not decided on what counters I will go with in the kitchen.

The counter choices I am considering are: Caesarstone - Linen, Wild Rice, Pebble, Shitake (potentially) ... and open to other suggestions. My cabs will be white shaker.

The fireplace tile (hearth and face) I have narrowed down to the following two (both Limestones) pictured below:

On the left Lagos Blue (aka Lagos Azul) - blueish gray/tans

On the lower right Sonoma Stone Teakwood - more brown tones

Which do you like better?

Sorry, just in follow up to my OP ... the wood in the pic are my floors, and the door is the color (not style) of my kithen cabs.

They are both very pretty and not so different as to be a deal breaker either way. I like the one on the lower right though. It goes with your floor beautifully and at least on my screen seems warmer. Very nice : )

I like the diagonal layout for your space. I think it will make it look larger. That hopscotch pattern is very cool-I've seen it done in small places w/ small contrasting tiles-but IMO you need a big expanse to really appreciate the movement in that pattern. Have you thought about not tiling the walls at all? Neither of my small bathrooms have tile on the walls. I think it makes them look bigger, and it sure is cheaper.

I probably should have worried more about marble-like quartz near real marble, but I didn't. In part because of the awesome example I saw here - @kompy's kitchen, which has Lagoon and a marble subway (it's a beautiful space, and she's a KD!). I took the liberty of linking one of her posts below. The other reason I didn't worry too much is that I never really thought of Lagoon as a marble substitute. I love marble but I wasn't going for an imitation. I liked Lagoon because it had a bit of movement and depth, and wasn't one stark plain color, but also wasn't busy. My kitchen is tiny, and my house is full of color, so I couldn't do a busy countertop. Anyway, I found the herringbone when I went looking for @kompy's tile at The Tile Shop. Hers was called Meram I think but the sample looked too white with my cabinets. So I grabbed everything else I could get my hands on. In the process I looked at a few other shops including some beautiful glass accent tiles that remind me of the ones in your photo - Jeffrey Court Gesso, which someone here kindly recommended. I also weighed a bunch of crackle tiles, maybe not sufficiently, but everything either seemed too grey or too beige where I needed a blend. The Tile Shop Carrera herringbone seemed to do the trick, and they were reasonably priced (around $15/sqft I think.) I bought all they could find in their inventory at the time, and used all but one sheet! So here are a couple of lousy photos, pre-reveal since there are some missing cover panels, plus some painting and a new/old runner for the galley. And one further caveat - my contractor installed them vertically rather than horizontally as I would have preferred. Thanks, all. The 8" x 8" encaustic tile is white, gray and black. It's 5/8" thick, so I guess I would have to put a pencil molding around it and then finish the remaining backsplash with subway tile. I'll have to sleep on this since it's such a different direction than I was planning. While it is so pretty, I know me...and I tire of color and pattern quickly. Would I with this? I don't know, but once it's installed, there's no going back. Lol Too bad I can't just mount it on a board and sit it back there and when I get tired of it....just remove it. Btw, they also had this one: You can't tell in the pic, but the wide color outline has a light brownish color in it. I really like this, with white subway and just marble area behind range...but will this look good with my tall hood?

They look close to the first two photos, but not the last two. Those are more varied looking tiles and have more color to them.

This was my inspiration for the fireplace tile. The tile looks more brown in the photo (which I like) but in actuality is very charcoal (and expensive - Walker Zanger! I will NOT be doing WZ!) :)

I also think I will be doing a 3x6, not the mini brick. Those mini brick are way expensive!

Hi BlackChamois, you and I have almost the same taste. When I went to the showroom, the two color that grabbed my attention immediately were Wild Rice and Shitake. They are just so pretty, soft, with just the perfect amount of warmth and coolness.

Lilymila - Yes, they both are great! I am still torn!

For the fireplace tiles above, I did pick the more brown of the two (in the lower right).

Do you think you will be doing Shitake or Wild Rice? Are you close to making a selection on your counters? Where are you in your project? I would love to know any BS suggestions you have for either counter!

Your hearth surround will blend in with the floor alright - is that really what you want? I'd go with Fireclay Tile Claymonde sheets in Light Celadon. These are large format 5 3/4" x 35 1/4" or 11 11/16" x 35 1/4" ceramic sheets - no grout, really beautiful.

Hi BlackCahmois, I am meeting with the KD tomorrow to finalize the cabinet order. I am going with Crestwood by Dura supreme, homestead door style probably in classic white. I think I am going with Wild Rice for countertop, keeping my 13 X 13 beige floor tile since it runs throughout my living room and dinning room. My kitchen is pretty small, I am not making any changes to the footprint but will get rid of the raised bar and make the peninsula one level and slightly bigger. I am on a budget so I am looking at tiles under $15 per square ft. I also want something smooth so it will be easy to clean. I found these for under $6 per square ft, so its one of my option. http://www.arizonatile.com/H-LINE-SERIES-P977C72.aspx I think a glass mosaic in the gray, brown, beige color family would look good too.

Lilymila - Those are nice tiles. I am a sucker for subway. That Nautilus color is pretty! Sounds like we not only have the same taste, but maybe similar kitchens too. My space is about 10x10 and I also decided to get rid of my raised bar and opted for one that is counter height to maximize by counter space. Can't wait! I'll try to follow your project too! Excited to see what you decide upon.

They are both beautiful choices, can't go wrong with either. If I had to pick one, I prefer the one on the left. I think it blends nicely with the other colors while still providing some contrast to the flooring.
