Tin-look wallpaper in bathroom
Comments (3)Thanks, PTAmom. You're absolutely right--leave it alone. I got up early and went to Lowe's. The sales associate was kind enough to open a roll of the paper and cut off a sizable piece for my experiment although she looked at me like I had 3 heads when I told her what I was doing. Anyway, long story short...I came home, stuck the paper over the tile and immediately hated it. I think I got caught up in a quick fix on the cheap and that's what it was looking like. I will say this, though, I think it could look ok if the tile were removed and I had a more substantial product than paper. Oh well, nothing ventured-nothing gained....See MoreFake Tin Ceiling Tiles - Question
Comments (5)rdsso I have the same armstrong tiles in my kitchen! It was difficult to put up (arms overhead a lot). We found that the edges were very delicate and anyplace there is a ding it is very noticeable. The ceilling tiles also were difficult to keep level so the ceiling looks a little wavy as if we are hiding a bad ceiling. If I had to do it over again I would opt for the larger plastic panels....See MorePainted tin tile as backsplash?
Comments (12)Ctlane, we got the tin tile and molding from M-Boss Inc. (link below). We bought it unfinished and had it painted to match. I think I went with them because they had the design I liked, but I think they were reasonable as well. I do remember liking American Tin Ceiling's tiles also, and I think they have a better finish selection, but I knew I wanted to paint ours so that didn't factor in. Thanks for the compliment, Oopsie913! No, it's not honed granite. We had such a large amount of counter that granite would have been a major investment and we were trying to keep within our budget for the build. It's Formica Blackstone in the Etchings finish, and I'm very happy with it! It was cheap enough that down the road if I decide I'd rather have something else, I can replace it without feeling too guilty about the price. But I like it so much I doubt I will replace it anytime soon. Soapstone is tempting, but we have many other projects that I'd rather spend the money on first. Comments (15)I like pressed tin, especially the real antique tin with the patina of years. However, I've always wondered how on earth one would clean it with the irregular surface on a backsplash. Is is necessary to use spray cleaner and a brush to scrub it? I'm neither overly OCD or a sloppy cook but I know stuff gets splashed no matter how careful one is. I expect if it was sealed well with a clear finish it would be best. Another concern for me would be (as previously mentioned) that they have a busy pattern and would look best with a plain countertop. Or one could use a plain tile and paint with only light antiquing. I bought some repro tin tiles to use on a room divider screen. They are a lot less expensive than the vintage/antique ones. Here are some pics which may help you visualize the look: Click on the 5th pic for backsplash - "Apartment Therapy" "Vintage Simple Home"...See Moreskypathway
