Seagrass rug and Sisal rugs?
Comments (11)I just recently bought one seagrass rug and one jute rug off of Ebay from Natural Area Rugs (I think). The seagrass rug is in our primary living area which is really lived in as in to the extreme. It has been in place for about three months and is so easy to care for. It shows no stains and is not the most comfortable under foot but will do considering its wear capabilities. This replaced a sisal rug that was here before (from Lowes I believe) and after approximately a year and a half or two years it had to be pitched. It did not wear well at all and was extremely stained. That sisal rug replaced a jute rug (from Ballard) that was in the space for about three years but shed like crazy. I loved that jute rug for the look, but it was a pain the umhum to keep up. The shedding alone was like having two extra heavily shedding dogs in the house. It stained easily as well. I can't remember what the final issue was for us to throw it out, but it eventually did get the boot. The jute rug I just bought is for our den which is currently used primarily is our youngest son's play room. It is holding up remarkably well and isn't shedding like the other jute we had. It is also extremely comfortable under foot which is also the opposite of the original jute. I know you didn't ask about jute specifically, but my point in including it is that I think all differ in wear and feel not only by the type of grass but by the type of weave and the manufacturer as well....See MoreNeutral Rug - No Sisal or Jute
Comments (25)LOL! I never thought of greek key as 80s.. but it is definitely not an era I'd like to channel through my decor! Thanks for the recommends.. I've never heard of Natural Home Rugs but I saw a few in there I like for other spaces in my home. Boop.. oh there are plenty of rugs I like on Horchow-- but of course they arent the ones in my price range. You've shared some gorgeous rugs but a few are way too contemporary for my style and I am just not loving the sweater weaves. I am going to check out some broadloom options and a few local stores. Surely I'll find something. I don't think my requirements are all that unusual....See MoreThinking about purchasing a natural fiber rug (jute, sisal, etc.)
Comments (6)I have a seagrass rug in my DR that is surprisingly tough, stain resistant (at least long enough for you to run and get a towel), but not soft underfoot. I just bought a jute rug for the LR. It's soft underfoot, but I don't know about cleanability yet or even how durable it is. However, for the price of these rugs, I would still consider using them in a family room, especially if they are going to take a beating. I paid $350 for a 9x12 jute rug (the soft one). You could put it in a family room, flip it over when one side starts to look bad, then toss it when the other side's done, and have $$$ left over to buy a new one, all for the price of a fabric rug. On the other hand, you might want to consider an oriental design if you have kids. I used an inexpensive wool oriental rug in our DR when the kids were growing up, for 18 years in fact. It hid everything. It was a dark, busy pattern. You'd never know a whole can of orange soda got spilled on it at some point. It cleaned well....See MoreNeed Advice on Shaggy/Flotaki type rug
Comments (9)I don't believe your photo is a flokati rug. A flokati is a wool (that is, from sheep) rug, almost always in a white or off-white color. I am most familiar with flokatis from Greece. They can be easily cleaned in cold water (think sheep standing in the rain!). Small ones can go in the washing machine; for larger ones, I have washed them in the tub. After washing in Woolite or similar detergent, I prop them up on an upright broom to let them drain, then move outside for drying. Sorry, can't help you with brands or stores. I got mine in Greece in the 1980's by trading American jeans for them!...See Morerunninginplace
