6 1/2 or 7 ft. long island. 2 or 3 pendants?
Comments (18)I had this exact same issue when I started designing my kitchen a few months back. My island will also be 6.5' long, and I ended up drawing the setup in autocad with the dimensions I was interested in. I ended up settling on the configuration in the image I attached. The island is 6.5 long, and the pendants are 14" in width. I think ultimately there's no right answer in a vacuum, depends on the other elements in your kitchen. Our island sits prominently in the middle of the kitchen and is the focal point when you first walk in. Our cabinets are also very simple, done purposefully so we could go a bit more extravagant on the finishing details including islanding lighting, hardware, and faucets. We played around with lights bigger than these and it didn't look right. We also played around with 2 light setups and it felt off to me. Good luck with what you choose!...See MoreOnly 1 pendant over peninsula
Comments (14)longer (horizontally longer) pendants seem to be a big thing right now. maybe you could look for a pendant that goes a little more side-to-side than up-and-down in shape. then it would read a bit like several pendants... and the light would be more spread out as well. just a thought. i also think that the pix of one pendant all look fine. kawh...See MoreAre two 10.5 inch pendants too big for a 58" peninsula?
Comments (4)I don't think so -- you are filling 21" out of 58", so it's roughly 1/3 pendants - 2/3 open space, but you are the one who needs to be satisfied. When uncetain, a mock-up helps (my DH needs them for everything) -- get a paper plate or cut out a similar sized circle from poste rboard, tape some string to it, mark the height of the pendant, (make 2 if you need to)then tape to the ceiling and stand back. Looks like the shade is semi-transparent and light in color, so the aren't going to be a very strong presence. That let's you go a little larger than if they were dark, very heavy or bright colored....See Morependants over 8 1/2' eating peninsula
Comments (10)I now have the same dilemma. My island will be almost 9' by 4' and I had the electrician rough in 2 spots because I wanted a couple pretty chandeliers - and now DH has completely nixed that idea. Boo hoo hoo. I am so upset about this because it has been in my "vision" for this kitchen the whole time. So I will need to find 2 larger size pendants for the space - unless it's pretty easy to add another box later on?? We are just starting drywall so I don't know if I'll be able to change the positions/number very easily. didn't mean to take over your post! I think that 2 pendants should be substantial (as gglks' kitchen, which by the way makes me drool everytime I see that backsplash) - what is your lighting plan for the remaining portion of the island?...See Moresneezye
