6' island: 2 pendants or 3?
Comments (10)I don't have a picture, but our two pendants over a 5' maple island seem a little inadequate. It depends on the pendants, of course. Mine are Porter Pendants from PB, the smaller sized ones. They take a 60 watt bulb each. The kitchen is all white, so it reflects light well, and there are plenty of high wattage recessed halogens in the rest of the ceiling, though spaced over 4' away, so not directly lighting the island. My eyes aren't as good as they used to be, so that may be part of it. But the areas under the recessed halogens are much brighter, and I gravitate to working under those instead. There are a bunch of factors involved in good lighting, including angle of spread, number of fixtures, distance from surface to be lit, color of surface, brightness of bulbs, etc. If unsure, I'd go with more rather than less. I don't think I've ever heard anyone complain about too much light! Here is a link that might be useful: Porter Pendant...See More5 ft peninsula - 1 pendant or 2?
Comments (27)Florantha- They are the same pendants Candice Olson used in her coffee klatch kitchen shown here in photo 4 of 6... the website really does not do them justice: http://www.elledecor.com/image/tid/3677?page=3&pause=1 Brickton - :( yikes I am glad you pointed that out before I spent a lot of time and money trying to get those pendants here from Canada. rcmb- So I was just about to have a no pretty pendant for me pity party..but those pendants you found are beautiful!! :) Very simple and color-free but with a wee bit of bling. My taste is very simple but I like a touch of something, something. And those pendants do have it. I am just wondering if they will be too dressy. What would I use for a light over my non-existant dining room table? Hmmm.. but I bet I could switch to my more fancy table choice: http://www.westelm.com/products/spencer-dining-table-g444/?pkey=cdining-tables Love it but am unsure to add more black (already have that from soapstone). I do not want the space to feel too cold and formal for such a casual home. I was originally thinking of warming up the space with a jute rug under the table and grass/woven roman shades. I am not a decorator (obviously) but it sounds like coastal meets Tiffany? Does that work?...See More3x4 island - 2 pendants - 8'' ceiling - pendants' size Q?

Comments (8)benjesbride I absolutely LOVE this idea! Is moving a waste line more of an issue than moving the plumbing lines? I've always hated that the toilet is right at the door and would like to add a partition wall between the would be new vanity and toilet location. There is a vent in the rear of the existing shower (from bottom to top of building) that is about 12" wide. It's goes all the way to the end of the foyer closet. That leaves us with about 72" of space along the foyer closet wall to add a toilet and vanity. I think the toilet requires 30" so a 42" double vanity (or two smaller single vanities). We cannot have washer/dryers in this complex (old 1950's plumbing). But I've always complained about no linen closet in the bathroom so that works too. I'd like to move the door to the foyer; however, that would require a split vanity due to the heating pipes in the middle of the room along the wall behind the existing door. No, we are not adding a bedroom. That may be a later addition though, years from now. An neighbor converted the rear of the living/dining area to an office/bedroom (photo below). I've tried to adjust the floor plan to add the vent/shaft in the rear of the shower. It may not be worth the time and expense to open up the foyer wall if we can't get a great layout....See Moretaggie
