How big is your peninsula? Have you thought about using mini pendants?

I saw this photo (not ours, but of another 1950s kitchen remodel) online. The peninsula is very short and there is only one pendant. I would think one pendant could work fine as long as its size was in scale with the size of the peninsula.

My peninsula is just a little longer than the one in that picture but it has a cabinet that would hit the light when opened if I had two mini pendants.

longer (horizontally longer) pendants seem to be a big thing right now. maybe you could look for a pendant that goes a little more side-to-side than up-and-down in shape. then it would read a bit like several pendants... and the light would be more spread out as well. just a thought. i also think that the pix of one pendant all look fine.

choose something with enough wattage to suffice for the planned activities in that space

Indeed consider swing of cupboard door--we neglected to do this and so our door just grazes our second peninsula pendant. We have a transparent plastic dot on our cab door as a bumper. Take heed, guys!

The pictures do help. Thank you. I was wondering if keeping in style really matters. I really like schoolhouse pendants but my kitchen has mexican tile (saltillo) floors and talavera accent pieces. Would that look bad? Cannot spend more than about $150.00.

I forgot to mention - my peninsula is only 3 feet wide from where the cabinet ends.

If we do a peninsula, ours will be relatively small as well. It will stick out 5' from the wall. We were planning on doing one fixture with two pendants, the same type you might use over a kitchen island. The link below has three, but you get the idea.

At Ikea, the Tidig 4 lamp version is now fed with electricity running inside the support cable instead of as a separate wire. The cost fits your budget, too.
