Need help with pendant light size over peninsula

I would love some advice on this. My peninsula is 86” long and 50” deep. I would like to hang 2 pendants over it, but am unsure if I should do 12” or 16”. I have included a pic of my kitchen and the pendant I am thinking although the color would be navy blue

I think you could do either.

if it's any help, I have these pendants on my island which is only about 4' wide. the pendants are 12-13"

why don't you blow up some balloons to both sizes and hang them w/string so you get a visual?

I would go larger if you are set on two pendants, otherwise they'll look tiny over the island. One way to to test the look is to make paper cutouts of different sizes and test them over where your island will be. With 8' ceilings, I would not use a pendant. It will always interrupt the flow between the rooms. I would go with recessed lighting over the peninsula.

Wow that is such a great suggestion to use lampshades. The Balloon suggestion is good too, but managing the size and hanging are much trickier for some of us.

And for any who saw that I deleted my post for the two pictures? Yes. because just because solid feels bulkier to me :........maybe it doesn't to the OP. They both FIT. it's the feel: )

The Target LAMP shade test is still a good way to test before you buy, unless an easy return on the actual pendant.

I agree - blowing balloons for a test should be outlawed. What a PITA!!!! LOL

hah! well I figured getting a hold of balloons and guesstimating would be easier than target lamp shades?? I hadn't even heard of that one. everyone has balloons on hand. big deal, you blow them up with a tape measure! but hey, if you have lamp shades in diff widths at hand, have at it!

HAHAHAHAHA turn the ac off and close the windows if you use balloons. I have had NONE "hanging around" FOR AT LEAST FORTY YEARS.

Tbh, I thought the same thing. yes we have no balloons, but do have some lampshades!

well to be honest, I don't have any balloons either! go hang a lampshade. put one on your head and dance around w/it while you're at it!

Thank you for your suggestions! We’ve been gone driving my kid to college. And although I hadn’t done the balloons yet, I actually have a bunch left over from my kids birthday parties. I think I will be going with the 12” ones because I don’t want them to feel too large.
