Fantastic! I have to say, there is something hideously appealing about couches #83 and #84. I love that the woman admits that they are in the same room, but knows enough to submit the photos to an ugly couch contest. Now, this is a woman I can relate to! :-)

OUCH. I have to say there are a lot of ugly couches there, but I think #73 and #76 are particularly offensive. No, looking again, it's actually hard to single them out. And check out #30!!!

Funny! Actually, some of them aren't as much ugly as they just need reupholstering. Granted, some of them are probably biohazards. And others are kind of funky retro styles or look to be older antiques that suffer from really bad upholstery jobs. A few are simply beyond any frame of reference I might have.
And I bet I could walk in to more than a few furniture stores today and find new couches that are far uglier!

We live fairly close to a college town-- and we love driving around it during the last week of school before summer break. That is when kids that are graduating leave all their old furniture on the curb for some of the underclassmen to claim for the next year. Some of those couches are soooooo hideous that I can't imagine that anyone ever had them in their apt or house! What is even funnier is the kids that take them and think they are getting such a treasure! My SIL claims that she has seen couches currently that were around back when she was a student in the 70s!!

They do this one every year; these are last year's pictures so don't bother voting, they've already chosen the winner out of this batch. They'll be taking submissions for the 2008 contest until July 4th. Yes, some of them are really wonderful couches with fabulous "bones" that are just in need of reupholstering! There's a very nice Mission couch (#02) that simply has some unfortunate upholstery on the cushions, and quite a few Empire and Victorian-period ones that would be really lovely with new fabrics, but a great many of them are just your basic, classic couches.

Although I wanna know how anyone's supposed to sit on #85, perch on the very edge I guess... and that white and brown leather semicircular jobbie looks like it belongs in some futuristic movie. David Bowie's "The Man Who Fell To Earth" or something.

iasheff, when the alternative is sitting on the floor, it's pretty easy to forgive a hideous couch! We had any number of awful couches in my various college/early-adulthood apartments - we just threw some blankets/sheets over them (we couldn't afford slipcovers) and worried about higher priorities like not failing the physics midterm and who was buying the beer this week. ;-) BTW, the absolute BEST dumpster diving, IME, is outside the dorms at an affluent college or university during finals week. I was always shocked at what these kids simply threw away because they couldn't be bothered to haul it home - after all, Mumsy and Daddy would buy them all new stuff for the beginning of the next year. Oy. The last year I was in Boston, had I had a pickup truck to transport the goods, like brand new furniture, I could have made out like a bandit... unfortunately, you can't fit too much in a shopping cart!

Hysterical! Viewing these couches would be a good way to start a weight loss diet. They made my nose scrunch up.

I think that I used to own #76. Not by choice though! My ex in laws pawned that hideous sofa off on my ex and me after we got married. It had been my ex-MIL's mother's - I know that she (my ex-MIL was happy to be rid of it) Of course that was 1979, so it was practically brand new then.
