sink dish strainers for cast iron sink

Does anyone have any of the dish rinse strainers or basin racks that you buy specifically for your sink? Decided to buy the kohler brookfield double bowl cast iron sink. Those basin racks that go on the bottom and the dish drying racks that are built specifically for the sink are really expensive. Just wondering if the bottom rack helps prevent some glass mug breakage or if it's more just to protect the sink surface itself. And would things get stuck under the rack all the time? The dish drying rack seems like a nice idea because it would free counter space from the rack and be cleaner than the racks that you put on the counter with plastic underneath them. That's all I've had and they are always messy. So, anyway, any experience with either or both of these items for your sink?

I use a clear plastic mat for the large side of my Rohl fireclay sink and a stainless dish draining rack on the small side. Neither is a Rohl product. The drainer I found online and the mat is from Target. I don't keep it in the sink unless I'm washing dishes. I fold it in half and stash it on the side with the dish drainer when not in use.

Try FaucetDirect.com. I balked at the price of Kohler sink grids, too, and they had a better price. I like a Kohler grids a lot, for the way they're designed, and am glad I got them rather than something generic.

I don't have experience with the dishrack. There are plenty of these that can be set into a sink, so, if I were you, I'd troll Amazon, W-S and BBB to see what's out there, and decide if there were any advantages to the Kohler one that are worth the money.

As to the sink grid, they are partly for protecting the sink, partly for giving you a level surface for putting dishes on, partly so that whatever you pour down the sink doesn't get your dirty dishes dirtier. Things do get stuck under the grids, but a quick spray down is often enough, and it's very easy to lift out the grid to clean down the sink.

Thank you My3dogs (this is my first post here so I am not sure if you will know I am replying to you.....the last time I looked at GardenWeb it was not part of Houzz...) I ADORE the Danby marble in my original post picture with the vintage sink. And I am not a 100% sold on Quartz/Quartzite but my concern is we have soapstone now and I am not pleased with it. A guest comes over and sets a casserole dish down and then pulls it out and it scratches. My "hard on equipment" husband unloads the dishwasher and drags a dish by the edge and it dings. I did like a white granite and thought it may be more durable than the soapstone but then researched the quartz or caesar stone and it seems bulletproof. The 'carrera" caesar stones look very marblesque. But I do love the look and feel of marble and so many on this forum have said it is NOT that hard to care for. Another dilemma! I believe I will have my husband make me a ply wood counter as funkycamper suggests....to try out the sink. I also need to research the faucets and get the sink resurfaced if I do decide on it (and I think I will always be sad if I don't..)

Worst case is if the nut mentioned above is rusted/corroded in place. If you cannot keep the strainer from turning when trying to remove the nut, then the nut needs to be cut/split, and then removed to get the strainer out. Just don't hurt the sink!

This info came from Pete. https://sinkmount.com/product/petes-sink-mount/ Two ways to do this. 1 - count the support like "normal" but a little bit low to allow for the addition of two pieces of 1/4" (or 3/16") flat stock that you can get from someplace like home depot. These pieces would go on top of the regular supports, from front to back, and the sink sits on these. The foam strip in the kit would go on top of the regular supports (blue parts) so that the 1/4" material sits on the foam, then the foam also goes on top of the 1/4" material so there is no metal to metal contact for any parts. Sorry for the odd angle of how this looks below. In reality everything would be square. 2 - This is probably more straightforward. Based on the pictures it looks like there is enough room to have the sink sit directly on the supports, likely with the "spacers" in the support channel for the pegs to sit on. If there is enough room for the rear supports to clear the drain holes with the pegs sticking down into the support rail then you would not need the spacers. Hope all that makes sense. Either way will work and be very robust. One of the issues with the Kohler brackets that sit on top of the cabinet frame is that you cannot remove the sink without removing the countertop. The other potential issue is the plastic tips of the adjustment screws that the rim of the sink sits on crack and break off then there is a gap in support.
