I have two Galley sinks and I am so diapointed with them. I would love to remove them, but I cannot without destroying my counters because of the way these sinks mount, which is different from most kitchen sinks. Just be aware, that when you purchas a Galley sink, it is permanent unless you want to redo your counters too. What I don't like about them is how messy they look. I have a busy household, so lots of dishes and every time the water is turned on, it spots the sink unless I hand dry it. This is impracticle for a busy home. Food sticks to the sides of the sink easily and the corners are very hard to clean. Also, the ledge where the boards rest, gets wet because of dish washing so the caulking breaks down easily and there is a moldy rim around the edge of the sink becuase of this design. (I had the caulking fixed within a year, but it happens in a matter of weeks) . I contacted the company and they sent me a product to clean it, but the product was like other products I can buy and the problem is the design and the materials. The company also comes acorss as uncaring and poorly skilled when dealing with customer disapointments. I had a stainless steel sink before and never experienced it looking like this, I actually liked that sink. Also, their bamboo boards broke down very easily. I had new boards made out of walnut and my new boards have lasted two years getting wet daily, with no extra drying from me and they look great. I think Galley sinks wants to be this fancy company but it's just cheap materials, cheap product, cheap customer service. Again, I wish I could remove them, but I cannot without destroying my counters and my counters are so expenisve that I am stuck with these horrible sinks. Good luck with your house remodel!

We have the standard accessories that are provided with our 5' Galley sink (2 deck/cutting boards, two colanders, two mixing bowls, two platforms with round holes that can be used for colander or mixing bowl, one drying rack). All of them can be set level with the counter or turned 90 degrees and fits the lower rim that makes them about 3/4" below the counter level (all Galley accessories have this 90 degree feature which is unique and makes it more useful than some of the other brands.) Because you can put the drying rack or the cutting board/decks on the upper level, you can easily slide the wash basin or other bowl accessories underneath them on the lower ledge. In addition we purchased the wash and serve set and the full bottom grate for both our Galley sinks. We use the wash basin every day and it substitutes as an ice bucket when we entertain and turn our sink into a wet bar. Personally after using this setup, we do not feel we would ever need the drydock with our sinks because the full bottom grate provides another level of drying with the upper drying rack. The full bottom grate is a must for us and extremely useful for drying larger pots and pans, vegetables and provides a much larger drying surface than the drydock would. We would also highly recommend the wash and serve set. We did not purchase any other accessories and so far have found this set up to be perfect. We looked at other fixtures since the Galley Tap fixtures were more expensive than Kohler and some other brands, but are very happy that we chose the Galley Taps because the spigots are specially designed to center on the sink and the soap dispenser is long enough to put soap far enough away from the side of the sink to reach the wash basin easily. The hot/cold tap also extends nicely away from the side of the sink so that we are able to fill pitchers and teapots as well as single serving mugs and glasses easily. The Galley Taps were well worth the investment and look beautiful -- easy to keep clean and shiny. (We have two faucets in our 5' sink and one in our 4' sink in our vacation home.)

I really enjoy my Kohler "professional" taskcenter sink I found on Craigslist. It is 18 gauge and doesn't sound tinny, however it is also sprayed underneath and has soundproof pads - I recall reading somewhere on this board about spraying sinks after market - something to do with a product found at an auto supply store? If you can find a taskcenter on Craigslist (I kept looking on ebay etc.) then I can almost guarantee that you will both love it. A lot of people on this board have relationships with their granite. I have a thing for my sink. If you go through with this, I recommend cutting a piece of butcher block the depth of the inside rim of the sink (Ikea is a good bet) and attach "short risers" to the underside edges - my sink came with such a board, and I slide it this way and that way from one edge of the drain board to the far end of the sink - makes it very easy to scrape veggie cuttings into a bowl - it also gives me an additional section of work area (over the sink) when I need it. I have linked to the sink to show you the cutting board - it slides over the entire distance of the sink. Regarding your baby - congratulations! Can you take a doll with you when you go to look at the sink to see what the depth feels like? Sounds crazy, but it will help you judge the depth and how it feels with a "baby sized object." We did this when introducing our dog to the idea of a baby - played with a doll for a month! I wouldn't get too caught up on making sure that your baby fits - babyhood is so fast, and you really don't know what will work for your child until he or she gets here. We spent hundreds of dollars on a sturdy, beautiful crib that had hardly any use, as our baby was so colicky - we ended up having him in with us for quite a while, and had previously not considered this. Our dd loved the crib, but preferred the security of the small plastic baby tub for longest time. (She didn't like the sink at all - I guess she didn't feel secure as an infant, and by the time she could sit up, loved her tub.) See the sink in person, hang your arms over the edge, bring a doll and try it out. And I am wishing you a baby with a colic-free babyhood! debrak, that's a great idea - I'm just not sure our guy knows how to work like that. But I want someone who does. I also think that the problem might be me. That I don't know how to effectively ask for what I want, without feeling like I'm throwing a temper-tantrum. I want to step back and let the architect do what he does best, but I also want the end result to fulfill certain criteria, and I feel silly asking for that. So it's probably just me. I probably need psychotherapy before even considering a building project. ;-\ laughable, yes, I've lived with a drive-under before, and I agree it is not ideal, but we have weighed this particular aspect over and over, and it always comes back as the best choice in our circumstances. We do plan on a dumbwaiter or elevator (or space for one in future). A drive-under is really no different than what we do now, only hopefully it will be more pleasant, with real stairs and indoors. Now, because the house is so elevated and we have no garage at all and the deck stairs are at the opposite end of the deck from the kitchen door, we stop along the side of the 40' long deck and throw the groceries, luggage, etc, up onto the 6-7' tall deck (we removed the railings for better access - against code I know), then drive 40' to the stairs, park the car, get out, walk up the 15 stairs, turn around and walk back 40' to the kitchen door. Sometimes we make our daughter stand up there and catch the grocery bags as we toss them, like some kind of fire brigade! It's a crazy pain in the rear. Especially in the rain or snow. oldbat2be, love your house! You are right, it may be time to consider a different architect. Or again, maybe I need advice on how to talk to this one.
