Height of uppers in small kitchen with vaulted ceiling - opinions

As you can see from the pictures I have a small kitchen with part of the ceiling vaulted, part flat.

I currently have 30 inch cabinets, but would like to have taller cabinets. I could stay with the 30 inch, upgrade to 36 inch high cabinets which would fit under the beam that runs throught the kitchen, or upgrade to 42, but would have to work something out under the beam. The pictures and drawings may explain it better. FYI, the stove/hood are being replaced with 36in stove/hood.

I am thinking that the kitchen is too small to have variation in heights. I am leaning toward the 36 inch high cabinets, but that leaves an awkward space above the cabinets on the window wall; too small to use for display, too big for just adding molding to top of cabinets.

I appreciate any input on the matter; I can't get past my same old ideas. Thanks.
