HELP!!! Change ceiling height??
Comments (6)I think the ceilings "A" frame is starting to look a bit church'esc but whats happening in the plan above this space... Would it benefit to put secondary floor space above... I know this is a structural change and additional cost but if you'd loose the volume what do you get back in return ?? Any potential cost saving? The wall in the background does it make sense to put an opening there to looks down from the space behind the vault? If the ceiling has no direct portal to the exterior ie no chance for a skylight or exposed beams... then maybe you do lower the vault or flatten it out... both will add cost... But maybe start looking at imagery that will show you the potential of both... A quick 3d study could put your woes to rest with the vault but I know you have to move fast... good luck !! Comments (27)I regret the cathedral ceiling in our guest suite -- *not* cozy. (Love the one in our Library.) Thanks for posting the plans. I'm sorry, but I think this addition overpowers your existing house -- the height, the huge dormer that doesn't add space. (Where will you place your bed?) I can't understand the stipulation that the new addition's roof line can't exceed the existing...since it obviously *does*. The closet/bathroom section could be improved....See MoreLight fixture where ceiling changes height?
Comments (8)@Patricia Colwell and @kandrewspa thanks so much for your replies! I added more recent pics of the space (still a work in progress!) Now there's just duct tape over the box, and yes it's 8' there and it lines up with the peak of the vault. I just thought the fixture looked weird there because it is so close to the "edge" of the ceiling there that it feels imbalanced. A standard round flush light will probably go all the way to the edge or even past ...… which is why i'd love something more long and narrow to kind of follow the edge, but i don't think track lighting would work well. Good poinit about the lamps being more important though!...See MoreUser
