10 foot ceilings and window height
Comments (11)If you place the windows at 14" from the floor, they will most likely need to be made of tempered glass. Your architect will, of course, be familiar with all of the local building codes. What does your architect think of the window sizes? We first decided what we wanted our exterior to look like, and then we decided how to take that look and apply it to the interior. Our front elevation windows are 73" tall, and we have 9' ceilings. They are 20" from the floor and about 16" from the ceiling. One of our neighbors-to-be has his window trim integrated into the crown molding b/c his windows are oversized. The front of his house is beautiful, and the trim in the interior rooms that house these windows looks like nothing I've ever seen before...but I really like it. I share this example to show that if you want the taller windows (and they complement the exterior), then go for it...anything can be made to work!!...See More44' ceiling fan in 10 foot high kitchen?
Comments (1)I think circulating the air helps with comfort and HVAC efficiency. But, it depends upon the size of the room, where the fan is mounted, and the purpose of the fan. Do you hope it will assist vent hood or just keep air from becoming stagnant in the kitchen? Is it over an island? At one end of the room? The fan in the 8'x16' bakery is about that size. The blades are 10'' from the 10' high ceiling. The fan moves air very well! The blades of the 52' fan in the Keeping Room (end of the kitchen 28'-32' x 13' -14') are 24'' from the 10' ceiling. The fan moves air very well at one end, and pretty well at the other depending upon the fan speed....See More10 foot ceilings and cabinets
Comments (13)Thanks for the responses. I like the idea of the paneled soffit. I agree that I want to be happy later. In building a whole house, I find that it is hard to do everything! I have seen many pix where the cabs didn't go to the ceiling and it has never bothered me, but the finished look is nice too. Our doors will be 48" high with a tall crown, so I don't think there will be a TON of space above... I would still love to hear more about what others have done....See MoreSmall cove molding on 8 foot floor to ceiling cabinets?
