PLEASE Help with furniture placement in family room

Open concept kitchen, living, and dining. I'm not sure how to place furniture and tv. I' d like either two sofas and two chairs or one sofa and 4 chairs. Should TV go on wall as one enters home of opposite wall? Thank you as I am stumped. I can add or move windows also.

I'd do two full-size sofas and one chair (two if you have the room), in an L, first sofa in the center of the room, facing what looks like a loveseat in your diagram, pulled in a bit from the hallway, console table behind it for lamps and knickknacks. Second sofa with its back to the wall that is the bathroom, left arm touching the right arm of the other sofa, square table set in there.

Chair in SE corner, at an angle.

LARGE coffee table.

This arrangement is common, but it is for a reason.
TV mounted on articulating arm on the wall where the loveseat is now.

I had not even thought to put TV on the front wall. Would the light from windows and front door (partial glass) impact viewing at all? I feel like I have had a bad glare from windows before which I why I primarily focused on TV on the exterior wall and wall at entry.

Try putting the tv on the west wall. Pull the furniture in toward the fireplace leaving space for a walkway behind the furniture. Place the sofa toward the fireplace, two chairs to the right of fireplace facing the tv wall, one chair flanking the fireplace on the left. If they are planning to buy new furniture, I think an l-shaped sectional would work well. One side facing fireplace the other the facing the tv. One chair could flank the fireplace on the left angled toward the sectional.

You need to keep the walking flowing. Is the light fixture in line with the hall doorway and the door to go outside? I am thinking you could do two loveseats. One on the wall and another dividing the rooms as a "wall". The table could go between the "wall" loveseat and the island. Your walkway would be a circle around the table. My friend has hers like this but she has a square table. I think round makes the table seem less in the way than a square would. If you did this you would not want a long sofa table behind the "wall" sofa because I do not think you have enough room. You have windows like I do, really consider how much light will glare on tv if it is put on the windowless wall. I finally got shutters which help but am now resorting to the tv over the fireplace. I was also thinking a sectional would be great in your space but some would not like that you can only get to seating from one opening. But it would give you good direction and seating for tv viewing. A "wall" would give two entrances to that area. You could possibly do a sofa on the wall and float a loveseat, but that depends on wall length of course.

i would not place over the fireplace, that is too high. you can put on an arm on the left side of the book case where the slot is for a smaller one or leave on the wall it is on, then i would give it a larger console. i think i would continue to have the sofa face the fireplace then have two swivels on the right side of the couch so they can turn to the fireplace, the tv, or the couch. i would not even ask about shelves i would quickly have them filled. if that step down gives a problem i think the least expensive solution is a slanted piece of wood shoved against it. well and glued down. if you ever want a little more color or zip, let me know can give you at the least some cool pillowsl. let me know.

The room is 18’(wall w sofa) x 16’(wall with fireplace). It is our family/den/living room. Just three of us, but we entertain often. (Parents and kids). The wall with the entertainment piece is 8’ and the TV is 65”. I hope that helps.

I can't tell where windows are in the drawing, but yes, you don't want a tv facing windows, esp. depending on which way the windows face. For instance, if they face west, sun will come in later in the day, when you might be more inclined to be watching TV. If east, not so.

Where is the door in the LR leading to? Do you have a picture of the room? The LR has 1 window for the entire room?

The door into the living room is the front door which comes off the screen porch. The living room is open to dining and kitchen. House is not yet built. I think I will add another window now behind current sofa position. This is a house at the beach.

I moved your exterior window on the wall where the door is down just a little towards the wall.

Here is one idea. It also creates more of an entry by having the sofa along the entry.

No reason to add another window. It's only going to interfer with the TV. Here's layout, but I shortened the sofa a bit.

Just fair warning. Having built a home, while moving windows for interior design purposes is easy to do, from an architectural point of view, the exterior and the interior must be considered at the same time. Otherwise you can end up with a real mishmash on the outside.
