help with layout of a small kitchen pic 1/6

Hello, I really am hoping that someone here can help me. I feel like I'm at a dead end here. We are in the process of a hue remodel. I have done a ton of work on my kitchen just to get it to the shape it is in now. I was so gross. So I know that it doesn't look like much but I am very proud of it.

I had made my mind up that the wall dividing the kitchen and the dinning room would be knocked out. My husband and I had decided that we wanted to close up the door in the kitchen and put French doors in the dinning area where the double window is now. The French doors will open up to the huge porch . By the way the desk that is in the dinning area will not be there much longer. As i got to thinking the other day I realized that I'm going to run into problms with the french doors . The table will be in the waybecause i planned on centering it once the desk is gone. I am not set on keeping the same table but I feel like this will be an issue regardless. can anyone help me on possible layouts or show me similar pics of kitchens that could be like mine and what you have done. as you can see our home is very small. I have tossed out the idea of a breakfast bar where the wall is now but i just don't know how to incorperate it. And we have 4 people in our family. I really don't want us all sitting right next to each other eating . Please help me I feel like I'm lossing my mind!

It's very hard as you've posted pics one in each post, and at that, some are not showing up for me....and we really could use a floor plan. It would be much more helpful for us to understand what you are dealing with.

To put pics in one thread, you need to copy the image address (usually ends in .jpg) and paste it where the xxx is as follows, replacing the parentheses with pointy brackets instead (less than and greater than sign).

I don't usually see the need to swap out a fridge for a CD model. If it sticks out and cuts into a walk way I'd do it if I could financially. I would allow extra inches around it (even if a filler is needed) in case a future fridge is wider. the corners - I agree with rhome on being consistent with whichever type you use. I do think the diagonal corners cut into your space - makes it much more difficult to reach into those corners! The upper diagonals put the cab door smack in your face and give too deep of storage- where things are lost in the back. alternate upper corner cabinet - the pantry - I think it's fine and space like that can always be used. you can use the different doors/shelf areas to separate types of items - like canned goods in one, breakfast and other dry goods in another, 1 for baking supplies, 1 for snack items/juice/soda and /or water bottles. Unless you have a definite need for a counter space closer to the dining area I'd keep it as is. I don't think it's too big. doorways - foyer - I don't see the need for a wider doorway there (am I missing something?). will there be a closet in the foyer? DR/LR doorway - that might be a good idea to check out. make sure your table will fit thru the doorway w/seating also. or you might just set up another table in the LR lined up with the doorway. We did that at my sister's for holidays - there was a large archway between her eating area and her LR so we put another table in her LR running up to the archway so both tables were close together. It was a 'T' arrangement. base cabinets - drawers, drawers and more drawers!! why so few drawers? it looks like it'll be a big, beautiful kitchen with lots of cabinets and counter space! I'd put in more lower drawers tho.

Lavendar, I love those windows in her kitchen! I've really been working hard on the yard for the last few years, and I want the house to engage the outdoors! Here's a new one, based on what you all are talking about. oh - I forgot to label the DW, to the right of the sink. This would be a less expensive reno, because the wall between the sunroom and the dining room is structural (as is the one between the sunroom and the living room). With this plan, I wonder what value there is in pushing out into the sunroom....other than this plan preserves the existing dining room, which I kind of hate to be in because it's dark and it functions like a hallway. I like it quite a bit... I'm struggling with not being able to have a table right in the middle of that space, in front of those windows. I want to stand there at the sink and look out, AND be able to sit there! We have a stool jammed into the current kitchen now by the back window, and I love sitting there and looking out at the yard. It irritates me that there's really no space to sit there now, with a 22" deep peninsula with no overhang! I'd love to sit there with my husband and have breakfast. I also don't think I can lose that second doorway to the bedrooms, because of the level change at the other opening. But, I think I we can push the fridge back into the closet in the sunroom, which could make it look like a built in, no? Thank you thank you thank you!

Does your budget stretch to include extra deep cabinets? I pulled the base cabinets away from the wall by 5.5 inches on my stove wall so I could use extra deep counters. My husband likes to have all the spices and various items on the countertop so I wanted to be able to push them to the back and still have space to use I used standard cabinets and just put a removable panel to cover the empty space. My future plan is to use the space to store a slide away baby gate to control access to the basement stairs and back door. Not going to work on that project until the need arises, but the option remains open.Another thought is to use the cubbyhole to stash a folding step stool or tray table. Have you considered adding a pull out cutting board underneath the counter top? My previous kitchen had a wide pull out that I used as a spot to sit pans for the oven. My counter was shallow so I left my materials on the cupboard and used the pullout to hold the pans being prepared. While the pans were in the oven, I had time to clear up the mess and have clean counter space available for cooling racks. Another thought is a hinged countertop that would pull up to extend the length of the countertop and fold down when not in use.

Yes, I have thought about that.. Ikea only has one depth wall cabinets which are the same depth as their shallow base.. (Previously that wall had the same thing (wall same depth as base.. But the previous cabinets were built in place.. 13" depth instead of 14 3/4.. ) That's why I designed it with the top 21" shorter than base so that the counter will be useable.. Also thinking of mounting the cabinets a bit higher than normal (19"-20") above counter so counter is more useable. If you have a suggestion of where I could get 12" wall frameless quickly w/o doors?? and maybe use ikea doors with them?

I'm sure the experts will soon be along to help answer your questions, but I wanted to point out that you can put multiple pictures in the same message and make it easier to see everything all at one.
When you put in the html code for the first picture, space down a couple of lines and then do the next and then rinse and repeat until you have all of the pics in.

Unsolicited assistance I know, but maybe helpful nonetheless.

You will get much more responses if you put everthing in one thread. Use an online photo service like photo bucket to be able to post all your photos in one post. If nothing else at least keep it all in one thread. Your various threads (I don't think I can find them all) will end up scattered all over.
You may wish to start a new thread with a title that briefly explains your question. Put all your photos and info in the first post. Let all these other threads drop.

Its up to you, I'm not trying to tell you what to do. Everyone here wants to help but its alot easier if all your info is together.

Jenny, don't start another new post, you can just add pictures to this post. Also, could you draw out your current floor plan layout and write in the dimensions ? Or, if you already have a layout idea of what you want to do with your kitchen, post it here. angela12345 here are the pictures of yours that I could copy into one post. There are some that did not show up in your individual posts. You need to measure out your kitchen and draw it on graph paper. Put in any door and windows with there measurements. Then either scan the drawing or take a picture of it and post the floor plan on here. You should then be able to get some helpful responses for your kitchen remodel.
