Shade too small for lamps ?

I found these shades, which I really like with the rest of the room. I like them with the lamps to, although they are not probably a common/more formal choice. Not sure on the size though, although I don't want to go too large.

This is the room with the white marble subway tiles on the hearth and surround, also the tan slipcovered sectional.

Lamp and shade, shade is still in plastic :

Lamp with a pillow and quilt in the room, picks up the greys. Don't know why the lamp looks more yellowish here, the other picture is in natural lighting and more accurate on the marble color.

i don't think the shade looks too small for the lamp... but i am wondering if you need a slightly taller harp(1/2"-1"??)- it almost looks as if it is sitting just a tad too low...

It doesn't look too small to me. I rely on these instructions from Ballard re: sizing of lampshades---

Dear arapaho, Thank you so much for your tip. I just received my shades from the FenchelShades site. I needed 3 shades that measured 6' at the top, 16' at the bottom and 11' tall for some table lamps in my living room. I couldn't find this size of shade anywhere! I ordered them custom made from Fenchel for just $26.59 each, in a chocolate brown color, exactly what I was looking for. you want the 'candle' to show...i don't think the shade looks too small-the problem with bigger shades is that they might hang too low...i am changing out my chandy shades to rh drum shades-significantly bigger than what i currently have, but wanted a change in look! i do have to change my lightbulbs tho...am putting in halogen bulbs that are taller and keep the shade from coming down too low on the 'candle'.

Right now the lamps do look skimpy next to the dark furniture. If you love the lamps, adding decor to the walls, accessories on the bed and accessories on the nightstands will help make the entire wall look more balanced.

I agree - the scale looks fine. Maybe a teeny bit low (corrected with a new harp or you can put risers on the threaded part of the existing harp) but it's not like it's way off. The color does look odd with the white shade and yellowish lamp in the photo but you have a good eye and if it's right in person, then it's just the way the photo looks.

The shade should just cover the mechanism, and yours does. You've posted this lamp before, haven't you. I love that lamp! Are you saying you wanted a shade more formal than this one? I think it looks great.

We have quite similar lamps! I actually decided on black shades when we needed new ones. I like the contrast and think it sets off the alabaster beautifully. With your dark frame on the wall, black might be stunning.

That said, I do like that shade and the size seems fine to me.

Thanks for the help everyone. I bought these last fall at a very local, in town estate auction. They've been sitting on my storage shelves and I keep looking at them. I think I've gotten used to them being shadeless if that makes sense.

Busybee, I'll investigate a taller harp or stretcher. We have one of those huge rambling old hardware store that carries everything here, I bet they might have something.

Dlm, This camera is a bear to get good shots with. It's my youngest DD's and it's just a little coolpixs she likes to carry with her. It's light, easy to carry and she takes pictures and film of everything. She actually gets decent shots out of it. We kayak in the spring and my good camera bit the dust on a trip sadly, I need to replace it.

Dee, I think I did put a picture of them up after I bought them asking for advice. I actually like the more casual shade, but I think because the lamp is more formal, most people would care for a more formal sahde.

Cyn, if you get a chance .. would you take a picture of your lamp(s) with the black shades on them. I thought about black, but didn't know if it would be too dark for this room.

Zipdee, I will definitely take a picture. Can you wait until the weekend? I am a techno-idiot and it always takes me a while to get the image to my drop box and then post it. It is as if I am always doing it for the first time. So pathetic!
