Exterior Color, need your opinion.

Below you will see a picture of my home in SW Golden Fleece matched by PORTERS. The picture after that is a photo of my neighbor's house in SW Golden Fleece. Do you think the exterior home colors look the same on both homes?

Shall I add a 2nd coat? Here is what I am thinking... looks to me my neighbor's color is far much "richer" which is why I see a difference. I am thinking that if I add a 2nd coat to my house, it will look just as rich. Right now, my house paint looks washed out. What do you all think?

It's a little bit hard to tell, because your house is in the shade and your neighbor's is in the sun, but yours definitely doesn't look washed out. If anything, it looks darker than your neighbors. It looks good to me.

The lighting is completely different. Your house pic now looks like the original GW Fleece pic of her house in the other thread! :) And hers now looks lemon yellow! and completely different than in the other thread ? Colors just can't be fine-tuned on the net because they're inaccurate.

Since you're not liking the color it's coming out on your house, I wonder if you could put the last coat on in a slightly different tone/tint? Or like a wash to get more of the color you're after. Maybe ask the paint store if that's a bad idea on an exterior? or how you might adjust the shade of the color a bit more to your liking?

How much sun does the front of your house get during the day? The other pics were shaded too.

Your house is pretty! (I remember all the virtuals in Home Dec). It does look a bit more earthy than neighbors, but hard to tell with shadows. (I'm looking at neighbor's above far right archway, where it's in the shade.) Oh wait, I just saw the part below the pictures. Yes, do that second coat!! It will absolutely give a more refined, finished, 'richer' look. Two finish coats, always!

Here's an interesting factoid. I had SW tell me what color is most like the color that's been on this house since I owned it (3 yrs now). I had an actual paint sample, right out of the can, albeit dried into the shape of the bottom of the can (heh). The existing color is/was very close to SW "Crushed Ice." And I'm tempted to use it again since it's slightly grayish but still very neutral. The SW rep suggested "Super White" for the trim as he said that's perfect for exterior use and has really good coverage. Thanks for the comments (and the support), everyone. Moccasin, I think your idea is one that has a lot of merit, particularly because, as someone else says, it will tie it in with the pergola on the other side of the house. It's certainly something that could be added later too so I can live with the gable for awhile and decide if something else is necessary. Marti, so far I'm pretty happy with these guys too. They are making relatively fast progress, which is really, really good. My one complaint is that they leave the job site pretty messy and seem to lack some respect for the parts of the house that are to be untouched. The existing floors are a sore point with me right now. We had all the floors in the house refinished about three or four years ago (before we knew we were going to do this project). We had a pretty complicated bleaching process done on the existing oak floors (so complicated that it didn't work the first time and we had to move out a second time six months later for them to redo the floors!) and it's not one I want to have to repeat. I told them that the hallway floor upstairs MUST be saved. They should try to save the bedroom floors (which had to be pulled up) but they weren't the greatest floors in the world so I sort of left it in their hands as to whether they could be saved. We were led to believe they probably could be. We just found out on Thursday that they didn't save them (we assumed they were sitting out in the garage with a billion other construction supplies or something) so now we're shopping for flooring, and that was not included in the quote or something we had budgeted floor. To add insult to injury, I found STAPLES in my floor in the hallway! I have no idea why, but it really upset me. It's really my only complaint with these guys so far and I know no crew is perfect, but I'll be talking with him about it today.

Need opinions on exterior paint colors.

Here is my house and I would like to paint it the cream color that I used for trim on the outbuildings. I’ll do a blue door. We are going to make shutters and paint them. I could use some suggestions on cute ideas for the shutters. I thought about painting them green with some accent trim in cream/blue? Should I also paint the gutters etc? What about the vinyl where the roof peaks - any thoughts on that?

P.S. I'd definitely paint the arch and columns around the door in the trim color. It will brighten the facade and change the affect of the color for you, also. As well as highlight your entrance :)

Your house looks lovely.
I agree with Squirrel about painting the arch and columns white.

Your looking at several differences between pics - your is shaded and it has no landscaping!! Green grass and trees with dark brown mulch will change everything!!

Yep...agreeing over here too. You can't compare the two photos with different lighting. Do me a favor...take a picture of the side of your house up close and in the sun like this one from your neighbor:

That way, you can really compare. But seriously, once you get landscaping in, plus change the columns (did you want to do that?) it will make ALL the difference.

About the columns... I put in WRITING to the builder that they are to be the same color as the side coins. Now you all can see what I am having to deal with. The builder really is a PIA!!!

I wonder if I should approach him nice or approach him with a more aggressive attitude?

I will be going by the house today to take a side view photo .

I would take the portion of your contract that states the columns need to be the trim color and show it to him. Just say, "I see we agreed the columns should be trim color, I just want to be sure we are all on the same page?" He may have forgotten.

(Pssssssssssstttt....don't tell your neighbor, but I think the golden fleece looks better with your roof color!)

Any chance your place is just dusty because of the sand/clay blowing around?

Now...as far as color sameness goes...looking at the lower right hand corner of your neighbor's house, which is in the shade, and comparing it to your house's pic...they look very, very close! Not scientific, I know...lol.

I think I like your color better. To me, it is rich looking, whereas the neighbor has more yellow.
