Help with grout color please

I am down to picking the backsplash! Yeah, moving along. I have creme white cabinets with a cherry peninsula. My granite is New Venetian which has taupe, creme, brown garnet, gold, and black. Very busy so I am choosing to do a simple backsplash in the same white as my cabinets. I Am mixing square 4x4 a bead liner and then subways for the rest. Over my range I am planning white tile with an accent of tumbled onyx to add an little interest. This will be the focal point from the door. I am trying to pick a grout color and I am weary of white. I am thinking of a light gold color. My thinking is it will tie the onyx with the rest ( 15 feet) of backsplash. Would this look appropriate? Will it be too busy and will I regret it later and wished I had gone with white. I am looking for a timeless look. What do you think?

If you use a color you'll be increasing the patterning. That is, you'll get a brickwork grid that pops, instead of a white wall with some texture. If you're trying to limit busyness this isn't going to do it. It puts a rectangular pattern against a swirly/spotty pattern. More of a more is more idea than a calming one.

Whether it looks good or not is your choice. Some will like it. Some won't. But not timeless. Very of this moment. That's not a bad thing.

I have the mushroom color sticks for my current tile and they are a tad darker and less yellow than the color on this card you have. I also have the mushroom grout in my foyer and it is definitely a mushroom color and not yellow at all. I think you should try a sample of the mushroom or the antique white that looks NOTHING like the color on this card. Look up my posts on choosing the grout colors for my new tiles and you will see what I mean. The white works but I would like to see the grout color a little darker to blend more with the tile unless you like the contrast.

That looks great H M! It makes SUCH a difference the actual carrerra tiles you have. I have other slightly different white marbles in another bathroom and kitchen backsplash, and for those renos I was lucky that my tiler happened to have open bags of frost and warm grey grout in his possession, so he was able to take my actual mosaic tiles and put a pile of the grout powder in between to help visualize what it might look like. My long winded point is that he did show me frost and it looked almost identical to avalanche in real life, i.e. pretty much white. So if you're looking for a grey grout to highlight the shape of your tiles, then frost will be too light. If you want a really light grout to have the grout lines be less visible, then you may prefer it. But keeping them white is another story...

A shower pan needs depth so that they can add a slant to allow water to drain. Only 'curbless' showers are level with bathroom floors. And those need +++++money/time/work to get done. A two inch step-up height for a shower pan is nothing in the scheme of things. So long as the slope and drainage are calculated properly, this should be no problem.
