How about some of those tall wooden candlesticks, a couple in different heights, in black (or white-hard to tell what the overall theme is from just this shot), with some color-coordinated candles? Then maybe on the other side, a basket of nice French soaps (Cost Plus has them) or something else decorative. I'm thinking something like the following example (they have them in different colors too):

Forgot to add: it might look cute if that table was painted white or cream. That is, if it's not a really nice antique you don't want to paint.

I just "found" a large art-deco-style "M" plaque (our last name begins with M) in the kitchen that I propped up behind the bowl of soaps and comes almost to the bottom edge of the poster. That might work. I need to look at it for a day or two.

Our Powder is fairly small too - about 4 x 6. When we updated it, DH cut a small niche into a wall thus creating a display space without the inherent hazard of something being knocked about. Possibly an idea for consideration in your room.

Part of our updating included replacing the pedistal sink with this vanity. The drawer enables me to keep extra TP on hand and the shelf gives me a place for fresh towels and "reading materials". I was able to eliminate a wicker shelf used for these purposes before that was often in the way.

How about a wooden dough bowl. I have one on my coffee table and now it's filled with fall gourds, for Christmas I fill it with scented pine cones and in the summer I fill it with sea shells. That way nothing is breakable and you can change it out with the seasons or to match your personality just have fun with it. I love the picture I think I would lower it a bit.

That sounds nice! I think the table would look really cute black, too.

It always takes me a while to decide if something's really working or not. I just keep looking at it until I figure out what's bothering me, and eventually I get something I can live with :-).

I had the same problem and using a taller cabinet the same height as the sink made a huge difference.

Can the print be lowered? It is viewed from an *ahem* seated position? :)

How about a stack of folded towels? Add some height -- and you could use the colors in the print to tie it all together!

I don't know, in a space that's already so small that vases are in constant danger of getting knocked over, I think candles of any kind--especially ones in tall candlesticks--are a really bad idea. Even if the candles are only there for decoration, you never know when somebody will suddenly decide to light one--I'm assuming your boys have pals--and when you throw into this equation assorted flammables like towels & Kleenex, well, I'm afraid you're asking for trouble. Ask me how I know this.

Of course, these days they make flameless battery-operated candles which look pretty realistic, but only from from a distance--not at eye level two feet away--so I'd ditch the candle thing completely & go with the big dough bowl, and--if scent is an issue in such close quarters--a big pile of long, golden-brown pine needles. They smell good & they're cheap--free, if you've got a few pine trees in your yard--so you can save the expense of the fancy soaps, which generally just gather dust while everybody uses whatever's on the sink, anyway. In a space this small, simpler is better. M.

How about a wall-mounted shelf? Adds room for a few things, but takes up no floor space and won't get knocked over.

Like the dough bowl idea --

Or what about a wash pitcher and basin?
Or an old watering can?
Or a large pottery crock of some sort?

I would lower the poster or raise the table. Less is better when it comes to powder room decorating.
