Love it!!! I have a bronze deer head hanging in my hall and now I see that it needs a wreath adorning it! The dogs mounted on the plates is so clever and hugely successful!

Do the sconce candles work? I don't see any cords. I'm assuming you used those candle pieces like you used for your barley twist lamps (from candlesticks)? You graciously shared those instructions and I still have them printed out - although that is as far as I have gotten.

I wonder how a pair of sconces would look on transferware plates? I would love to find a pair that just had a border. Those plates are PERFECT with your sconces!

Best ever mantle for the Holidays!

Sadly, these sconces are just for looking at. I didn't want to hard wire anything into that wall, as I change the decor over the mantle at least 4 times a year.

What I did was take a fiberboard faux drip candlestick for each, and I actually put a chandelier socket in the top to hold a bulb; I just didn't wire it. The bulb holds the shade nicely. I am thinking of looking into flameless bulbs, but I don't think I'll be able to find one that the shade could grip. I haven't looked yet, so there may be some out there.

I used two part epoxy to fasten the sconces to the plates, and just let it sit over night. You could put REAL candles it and light them if you didn't use shades. I thought about transferware plates, but decided that since all of mine have the design in the center, I didn't want to hide it. I had these plates on hand and I didn't want to go shopping, so I used what was here and they are perfect.

I'm sure that you could find some plates that don't have a center design and they would be beautiful. I just used a wire plate hanger to hang them on the wall.

I collect red transferware and also some blue for my kitchen, but the red would work great over our mantle if I can find some without a center design. That might be hard. Did you use dinner plate size? Thanks for the info!

I just measured the plate and mine are 10". It would probably depend on the size of the sconce you mount to it, but I'd think that size would be best over a mantle, as anything smaller might look too small.

It's exciting thinking of all the different ways one could go with this idea, from formal, to 'casual' or as one person called mine, 'hunt club', or even shabby chic, depending on the plates and sconces.

I think you'll get mixed reactions to this one. :0) My DH laughed. :0) My thought was, I remember how much that deer head cost on sale $$$. I don't decorate for X-mas, so I enjoy looking at everyone elses creations.
