Our kids have full access to the couch. There's always a blanket there for them. Only exception is that when we do have company over the blanket goes away. They like it and it helps contain the hair/mess. I do plan to get some blankets that look better with the couch but that's about it.

This is their "refuge". It hangs out in the family room in a semi out of the way spot. The little bit of blue you see is a dog bed that generally hangs out in the kitchen area for them.

For me, the kids are family. I want them to be as comfortable in the house as I am. I'm sure some (many?) would say my pups are over-indulged and spoiled but I also know that they work very, very hard (they are all service dogs).

We have the same problem. Riley likes to be on the furniture and she has claimed a "bed" in every room of our house.

Whichever room we are in, she finds her spot.

She does like the sun, so I tried her dog bed (she does have one lol) in the perfect spot.

It was fine until the sun moved, then Riley was back in her usual spots.

I have made a bed for the above couch. It is a Laura Ashley feather pillow inside of an off-white quilted pillow sham. Topped with her blanky...of course. Sorry, I don't have a picture.

My dog has 3 beds.........FR, Office and MBR. The office is a cheap rolled-edge bed that I want to replace with either the corduroy lounger or a doggy bean bag.

We don't let our Akayla on the sofa or bed because she's just too huge (plus she's off-leash outdoors all day getting cruddy). We have an ugly and out-of-place dog bed for her at one side of the living room area. Here it is with the cat on it instead of the dog:

My dogs, like many others, use the sofa, loveseat, chairs and sleep with me in MY bed. There is a dog bed in my office, but it's not often used. Mine seem to like to be off the floor.

My Boxer was a couch potato until I bought her her very memory foam dog bed. She loves it and so do I.

I bought it for Opie and the bed was wayyy too small. Instead of returning it I told dh "Well I'll just have to get a little dog to fit it"

My Riley use to be crate trained until we moved, and then she refused to get in the thing ever again. I gave the crate to the Katrina rescue.

Maggie is a cuddle dog. If there is a blanket around she is under it. When I work in the office she used to sleep on an old pillow, but DD insisted we get her a little dog bed. She is a Daschund. She loves it! DS brought another one home for her from his work. She loves to sit on the landing and look out the door, but we recently redid the stairs and took out the carpet. So that is where her new bed is. I will have to take pics.

Yes she sleeps with us as well, loves the down comforter!

Don't just check them online. Some of their stores seem to carry a big selection of matching designer pet stuff that I never see online or out in all the stores.

This is a timely post for me, as I have been looking for affordable yet stylish pet beds for our dog, who needs one for every room! She won't be anywhere without us, and for some reason doesn't like a perfectly soft carpet.

I've linked to the lowest-cost, dark wicker, off-the-floor brand I've seen in the past few days. At $43 it is really not something I want to put in every room, but it beats the $200+ leather models!

There are also wicker pet beds on ebay, but to my mind they look very much like laundry baskets stuffed with a pillow.

Our dog is welcome on the furniture. She is small and doesn't shed, and bathed weekly, so no problem with her being on the furniture. She's quite the *lap pup*, and wants to be with her people, so if you are sitting, she's going to be right there on your lap or snuggled up against you. She does have a dog bed in the kitchen where she likes to lay when we eat or I'm in there working, etc. She's never been crated (and never will LOL), but we use the same method on a larger scale - she has a *safe room*. She feels secure in there and that's where she stays when we are not there. She also has a dog bed in there. She is small (9 lbs) and likes the small beds with the fabric *walls*. Round/oval, cats use that type bed too. She also has a bed in the sunroom, but she is never in it, only puts toys/treasures in it! LOL I should just take that bed out.

If you're considering the wicker bed, keep in mind that the dog will have to jump 16" to get in and out of the bed. Your dog may be capable of this but as pets age they should avoid trauma to their legs and back as much as possible.

Our 2 Bassets are crated at night, and put themselves to bed when they're tired. My big ol' Lab, however, routinely gets on the couch when we're not looking, and no longer even tries to look guilty when we walk in.

As for a doggie duvet, I actually made one for our last dog, Mikaela. In fact, I made her a cover for her bed and a long pillow to match, as her bed was in our bedroom and clashed terribly. When Mikaela died and we got Turk (our male dobie), DH refused to let me put the pink floral bed back in there for him. We bought him one of those beds with sides that fit into corners, in a medium brown to blend in with the floor . . . and Turk.
Our Tibby (Tibetan Spaniel), Chloe, sleeps in our daughter's room, although she loves to sleep perched on the backs of sofas like a cat, or anywhere else Her Highness can get away with. She's especially fond of pillows.

I just have to say I enjoyed seeing all the pictures of the dogs & cats. It is so nice to see on a decorating forum there are people that really let their animals become part of their lives.

This is just about the cutest thread ever!

I purchased a memory foam bed in BJ's a few weeks ago for $29.00. My dog loves it but took him awhile to use it because don't think he knew it was for him and he didn't want to get in trouble.

I have three large mutts, big, bigger and biggest. I allow all of them on the furniture.

For each their beds I have 2 or three old blankets and towels folded to a nice size. I have a piece of eggshell type foam on the top of that. On top of that, I have a few more folded blankets and towels. Everything is covered with a fitted sheet that goes with the room color. I tuck it in around the edges to make it look nice.

I just could not bring myself to spend tons of money for something that I really did not like. Using old blankets and towels recycles. The foam stays clean between the towels etc, everything is easy to wash. The top sheet usually gets cleaned once a week.

We got the crate from a website called www.cratehaven.com. We originally saw the company on an HGTV show called "I want that." We are really happy with it. Our dogs sleep in our room at night, but they are crated during the day and we plan to do that forever, so we needed something nice.

We have a big dog pillow on the floor near the patio door that Sawyer really likes for watching squirrels out in the back yard. We have another big dog pillow at the foot of our bed for Mabel. Sometimes she sleeps on it at night, instead of on my foot. And Sawyer has another small pet bed in my DD's room that he uses when he's tired and she's not quite in bed yet.

I do use a matelasse coverlet on my sofa all the time, so that two doxies, fresh from exploring the backyard can be on the sofa without making me crazy. I wash it at least once a week and I have a couple extra ones, including an old red/black flannel duvet cover that I use for winter. When we have company, I toss the coverlet in the laundry and pretend we have a nice moss green sofa that stays perfect, even with two dogs.

I guess I'm kind of 'over' the whole thing of trying to decorate with dog beds. It's sort of like when your kids are little....There's no reason to make the whole house a big kid play area, but you cannot completely pretend that your rooms look company-ready all the time. We let our kids play in the living room, but they had to pick up the Barbies, or Legos, or Action Figures and put them back in their toy boxes in their rooms at the end of play. With the two dogs, anyone who walks in will see the dogs, so having a big tan dog pillow in a corner shouldn't be too big of a deal either, but we don't have 'dog stuff' all over.

I close all the bedroom doors when we leave in the morning. That way, dogs only have the run of main living spaces while we're gone. And we spent a lot of time housebreaking, teaching dog-door use, and putting a kabosh on any furniture chewing, (I did lose one armchair cover to Mabel 9 years ago) so that they can stay inside. I have to know that my dogs could get outside to safety if my house caught fire while we were gone, or if something happened that prevented us from getting home for some reason.
