Yep KIA on a given day means just that Sue...when he stirfries the man is in actionnnn! I have a lot more clean up but the taste is worth it. I wish I still had the pics of him stirfrying on the charcoal grill when our kitchen was out of use. My computer died and they are gone. Never have I had such great stirfry. You can't get that kind of heat on BTU's.

Yep he does rosie. It was 20 shrimp , marinated in salt,sugar and water while we had Pinot Grigio on the porch. Then minced chives and fresh basil from our pots. I had done the tomatoes yesterday. It is a recipe in this month's Wine and Food. Roast them at 300 for 1 1/2 hrs toss in honey and EVOO and salt and pepper 1st. I upped the temp to 400 last 10 min to crisp the edges. A big handful of sliced tomatoes, butter and EVOO to saute and and a glop of the wine and garlic and chives. Have pasta ready and reduce the sauce as you add the shrimp so that the shrimp are ready as the sauce is reduced. DS1 says all depends on size of skillet...too big too fast ...too small too slow. Then put on cooked pasta and fresh grated parmesan cheese and enjoy ! c

you.are.one.lucky.woman and it's a good thing to let him know how well he's appreciated. DH tells me that's what keeps him in the kitchen. I'll have to get some photos in action next time he cooks - hopefully on the weekend.

I love shrimp and my husband won't eat it so I don't get to cook it. Actually, since my husband just had gastric surgery we're not eating anything but puréed soup and jello. =o So it's especially great to "eat" with my eyes and imagination.

No backsplash behind the cooktop? You guys must be careful cooks. I splatter everything in the kitchen. And, say!, that is one awesome cleaver for prepping shrimp and veggies!

246: yeh but he has never let it stp him from doing everything except drive a car. We got the cleaver in SanFrancisco in 1976 at a China Town store. It is great.

im: nope no backsplash. It is so easy to clean the wall...and with stirfry I scrub it every night. We used the BM matte paint and it is like iron.

I so enjoyed this! I missed your original "in action" post (we actually had a tornado here in NH and internet access was out for days)but I've seen it referenced and will try to track it down.

Love the sound of your DH's recipe. He's a good sport for giving it out. I'd love to give it a try.

My DH's specialty is crepes for Sunday morning brunch. I'll see if he is willing to let me snap some shots to share on the guy's post.

I do wish your DH would "rent out". I am going to try your recipe, it looks delicious. I really like the way you cook, a handful of this a glop of that. It all makes perfect sense to me.

It is apparent that you are one lucky girl! My hubby is a treasure in many ways, shapes and forms but he doesn't cook with the exception of toast!

Have you ever checked out the website Roadfood.com? They not only discuss mom & pop type of establishments but many of the posters share their home cooking. (Look under the miscellaneous forums). You and hubby might enjoy that site and I'm sure the roadfooders would enjoy seeing your posts as well.

caroline - thank you, that is awesome! I have a DH whose mother couldn't boil water so his skills are ZERO. He lived on his own in MA for 3 months before the boys and I joined him out here - he said he'd die w/o my cooking for him so instead of relying on *gack* frozen anything or takeout, I would email him recipes, dumbed-down instructions and grocery lists. He came to love the stress-relieving affect of cooking after work each night and would send me cell phone pictures of his meals :-) He came to love it and when I joined him out here he claimed he wanted to start cooking together. Now he says I intimidate him so he's reluctant to be my sous chef but I'm still working on him. I'm going to show him these pics - thank your inspirational DH for me!!!!

The recipe inst. weren't too clear ( Pinot Grigio interfered:) ! He minced up a couple garlic cloves and thinly sliced 1/2 an onion. 20 shrimp thawed and peeled and soak in some salty/sweet water...it makes them moister and they taste really good. A goodsized handful of fresh basil shredded, a handful of chives chopped , about 1 1/2c of the roasted tomatoes. Then you put a hefty glug of EVOO and a TBsp or so of butter and melt together. saute the vegs 1st to sweat them then add the shrimp and the white wine...about 3/4 c. Simmer pretty fast to reduce and cook the shrimp. The sauce and the shrimp should both be ready at the same time toss in 1/2 of basil and serve over cooked pasta. Sprinkle on the rest of the basil and the grated parmesan.

Trailrunner and DH, thanks very much for the recipe, and for more instructions. Not being so reliable at seat-of-the-pants cooking, I like to follow recipes as given, at least the first time. As it happens, we have everything on hand but the shrimp...

BTW, this thread was a terrific idea and hopefully will give rise to many in the future.

Trailrunner- I am sooo enjoying your posts! Everything looks delicious! I have one of those great husbands from S. Louisiana and he is a fantastic cook, too. We live in N.O. and we spend lots of time cooking together. We just moved into our renovated house this weekend so we are still living out of boxes. My husband is just itching to use the new Wolf stove. I just might have to try out some of your recipes when we are back in action! Thanks!

trailrunner - here I am up again at 4:30 to squeeze a row w/ the crew in before the taxi comes to whisk us off to the airport! We are headed to MN (where else, right?) - my oldest has been there for a couple weeks attending hockey camp and now my DH and younger two are joining him for a father & son hockey camp - the older ones have done it for years and it's just a blast, espcially now for the younger one (6 1/2) who gets to join the big boys (13, 9 1/2) at camp this year. I get to hang out w/ my girlfriends, SANS KIDS - WHOOPEEEEEEEE!!!

I think mamadadapaige is planning a Boston get together - you're such a traveler, why not hit Beantown after you head to NYC? I'd LOVE to cook w/ you!
