Baseboards - Help me choose, please! (Pics)

I am trying to select baseboards for my 1100 sq ft condo. It is small, but I do have vaulted ceilings if that makes a difference.

I am going with the shaker door pictured here in both my kitchen and guest bath. Cab finish is TBD - either white or gray for kitchen, and white or stain for guest bath.

The baseboards I am deciding between are:

#1 - 3 7/8" (too "curvy"?)

#2 - 4 1/4" (too plain?)

#3 - 4 1/2" (too curvy and tall?)

Do you have molding anywhere in the house? Around windows? Trim? Seems it would be better to try and match those exisisting features rather than your cabinets. If not, then maybe keep the lines simple or more modern.

I like #2 but not the floor tile. I feel you should use the marble for the floor that's in the mosaic for continuity. Your floor tile choice has too much gold in it and doesn't match. If you don't want to use real marble for the floor there are many porcelain copies. If this porcelain marble matches it would be very pretty with it. The veining also picks up the light color. Suggest you go to a lighting store. Two national chains are Lamps Plus, and Lights Fantastic. You may have local lighting companies. On an 8' island, I would suggest three pendants. In decorating circles, odd numbers are preferable.

Congratulations! Your cabinets look beautiful!! I would not go with the two different granites. Not because of the size of the space, which by the way is not small. Most of the kitchens that I've seen with two different countertops, also had a different cabinet color on the perimeter than the island. Since your island will match your perimeter, I think you should keep the countertops uniform as well. Of course that is just IMHO. As far as color, I think you should go with a dark granite to give some contrast. Since your cabinets and floor are so close in color, a lighter granite would look too monochromatic. A dark, rich color on the counter would really make the cabinets pop. I would even avoid the browns and go with a black or dark green or dark blue granite for some interest. I think Volga Blue or Verde Peacock would look great. Soapstone would be gorgeous! Good Luck! Susan

What brand cabinets are these? I like #2, but in #1's color. Yes, the flooring needs to be done before the cabinets. But you can NOT install tile over laminate. It all needs to come out down to the subfloor. Then the subfloor needs to be assessd for support and deflection. Not all homes have a stiff enough support for tile without reinforcing.

@annsch - Good point. I do have trim around my doors and windows. I wish it were more of a "craftsman" look, instead it does have a little curve in it, but still simple/basic.

Then maybe #2. Might help to have pix of trim? Or profile pic of your sample baseboards?

Wow, that was quick. You're welcome. It looks like A and B have the same profile. I would go with B (which would be #2 in previous picture) because I think it matches your window trim best? Just my 2 cents. :)

I think #2 ties in best with both the existing trim and the new cabinets. Number 3 is a definite no in my opinion-too fancy for the other elements.

I like the middle one (B/2) as well, just didn't know if it was TOO plain.

From the side A (#1) and C (#3) look pretty curvy. In person C is a little more subtle.

I think it will be ... 'B' :)

#2 suits the cabinets and the window trim best, I think.

I think #2 is the best choice with a shaker cabinet and your window trim.

@lascatx - Thanks, I just checked that one out. The tallest it seems to come in (from the place I am checking, at least) is 3.5". I know not a big difference, but the shortest I wanted to go was 3 7/8".

The middle one. The others seem too ornate for your casing and your cabinets, IMO, whereas ''B'' has just enough detail.
