I love it!!!! It is very cool, even when you don't know the story behind it. And when you know the story--even better. I much prefer wall art that has some type of meaning.

I have been having a hard time trying to figure out wall art for our rennovations. I am going to make a large canvas with our last name with the letters made out of things I photograph that have meaning. For example, the "o" will be the tire on my husbands car that he saved for, dreamed about, and absolutely loves. It's kind of trendy right now, but it will be special to me as the letters with all have meaning.

Your canvas just gave me the idea to do something with the number "21" which is my lucky number--my husband, my parent's, and my kids bday; my wedding date, and my address.

Thanks for all the kind words! I am struggling with decorating so many blank walls, and I love how this turned out. The entire project only cost me about $40, and it is exactly what I wanted.

I really wanted to put a set of vintage nyc subway signs (I'm from ny), DH feels it will be too trendy. The canvas nyc signs cost about $250 each- so nice job with the DIY

Thank you again so much for the kind words. It's good to have this forum bc most people I know just aren't into this stuff. So, I feel like I'm doing this in a vacuum and I can't decide if it's any good or not. I do love doing this stuff. I do actually have a pretty demanding full time job and 4 little boys. I have taken to doing all this stuff in the middle of the night. It's been a rough couple of months, in terms of sleep!

pps7, I love the idea of the NYC subway signs. I lived in NYC for a bit, and another image I love is the map of the NYC subway. I've seen shower curtains with the image, and I always thought it would be great blown up. I don't think the subway signs would be too hard though. Some circles with letters in basically, right? Go for it!

Mary Lu, here is the best "long distance" picture of the wall. I'm working on the rest of the room and house. I'm getting several little projects done, hopefully before the holidays. I'll be posting more as I get them done.

Kiki, nope, there isn't another post where I discuss the process. I just used very basic acrylic paint that I bought at Michaels. I drew the letters using a ruler (after much calculation), and then I used a glaze mixed with some of the acrylic (thanks to Paintergirl) to give it an aged look. I've been always wanting to do more painting, and this has gotten me inspired to try some other things (since I have a bunch of left over supplies).

Congratulations, not only on the execution of this piece, but on figuring out the logistics of getting it up & in place. It's one thing to come up with a good idea--that's the easy part--and it's another thing entirely to run with it & turn it into a reality. I'm sorry to admit I have a whole drawer full of sketches & renderings of projects I designed for my former places that I somehow never got around to actually doing. Somehow, paying clients always seem to slow down progress at home. At any rate, you did a great job. Thanks for coming back to show off your finished project.

We are having Christmas for DH's entire family at our house (27 people!); so, I am really trying to check the projects off my list. Although, it's making me grumpy bc I'm getting no sleep! ;) I'll post some more photos in the next week or so, when we've gotten the house to where we want it, although there is still much more to be done.

newhomebuilder, I bought the canvas at Michael's. They sell it in rolls pre-gessoed, and I had a 40% off coupon that I used. So, it wasn't that expensive. Plus, I have lots left over, which means that I should probably figure out another project. You just be some wood and nail it together in the shape you want, and stretch and staple the canvas in place. I used 2x2s bc my piece was rather large. If you are doing a smaller piece, you could use thinner pieces of wood. So, a banker.... what kind of banker? How about a large graphic bull?
