Granite countertop color advice desperately needed! Thank you!

Hello! We are updating our kitchen countertops to granite and are confused on what color to choose. We looked at a light background Typhoon Bordeaux; however, now I wonder if our oak cabinets have too much grain in them to go with all the movement in the Typhoon Bordeaux. Our floors are also a golden oak and we have a fireplace in the middle of the open kitchen, living, and dining area that has a reddish brown brick with brown morter. We do have lots of light in our kitchen and cathedral ceilings. I also saw some gorgeous black granite slabs with silver shiny areas. My husband also likes the black, but we are both a little concerned that the black may not go well with the brick fireplace. We have stainless steel appliances, and I was thinking I would replace the cabinet hardware with stainless if we choose the black. Any advice/suggestions you could provide would be greatly appreciated! Terri

I just "googled" pictures of Typhoon Bordeaux and just about all of them have that granite with oak cabinets. That is a beautiful granite!! I much prefer that over black. Black is high maintenance to keep clean too! You need to go with what you like....either will match with oak cabinets and brick fireplace!

Are there other yards you can check? I found that Typhoon Bordeaux varied a lot between slabs. You may find one that is just right for you.

These are my pics of my countertops placed Friday June 22, 2018. I cried looking at these seams. It looks so cheap. Fabricator explains that's the way it comes. I explained that I shouldn't be able to see the seams so clearly. It looks so unprofessional. They ended up taking them back to their warehouse. In hopes they say if it is quality control will try and fix it just to make it look better. Otherwise I will have to pay an additional fee for them to come out again to install. I just don't know what to do and if still looks the same. This is the first time I've replaced my counters in 24 years. I don't and can't live with it. looking at this for another 24 years. It looks so cheap and it really was not it's a lot of money to me. I hope fingers crossed that they will fix this problem. They never told me that there would be such seams. I thought the edges were done by a machine and it would be all one piece. I have read up on this and now understand there are seams. But now I do know that they should not look like this. If they are good fabricator you shouldn't be able to see them so clearly. I will find out next week what happens.

Another question, would Formica Jet Sequoia on perimeter work ok with Fantasy Brown island or too much movement in Jet Seq? Or would White Delicatus or Bianco Antico go better with Jet Sequoia?

I just saw this quartzite the other day at the stone yard. Looks like this is the same one. If you get this for the island, then do the perimeter as well. I think if you try and do something different, but still white, it's going to look off. (unless you do a plain white quartz) . Do a quartz that looks like marble, is not going to work, IMO. They are just two different looks. Do them all the same, or do a dark, solid contrast. Now, if you wanted to do a soapstone, I'd say fine. that would actually look nice. look at this pic to get an idea (different island, but same premise). it's not going to make things look dark if you went w/a soapstone or even a honed Jet Mist granite. Cielo is a quartzite that you may want to consider as well. this one is leathered.

I have oak cabinets, but without too much grain, and I picked Crema Bordeaux for my counters. I took photos of several slabs and then used Photoshop to help visualize things.

Here is the 'before'(The white grout was a real pain to keep clean):

Here is the 'visualization' using Photoshop (I also used this technique to visualize the new sink and faucet). I took photos of about a dozen slabs and this looked the best with my cabinets in my opinion:{{gwi:2108167}}

And here is the 'after'with the new sink and faucet, and, instead of the old wire rack for gadgets, a drying rack made out of copper tubing. Also the wall is painted a color taken from the granite.{{gwi:2108168}}

That is a wonderful transformation and a great way to
show everyone how wonderful new counters in a color you
like can work. I had white tile, grout cleaning is a
nightmare.

Can you post pictures of your space? Seeing how large
or small, the lighting, the textures, visual space ...
can help with making granite suggestions.
TB is a fantastic choice and I agree with Ginny, the slabs
vary.

What colors do you like? What feeling are you going for?
What is your backsplash like? Are you keeping or getting
new?
Are you thinking rustic, elegant with triple waterfall
edge, or maybe contemporary... I am happy to post pictures
just need a little more information.
