What was the inspiration for your choice of cabinets - what kind of look are you going for (vintage, contemporary, asian)? Are your cabinet doors simple slab or shaker, or are they intricate raised panel doors (an image would be helpful)? Do you want the granite to have a lot of complexity/color/movement, or are you looking for something calm with a knockout bs? What colors do you love, and have you used in adjoining rooms?

So basically, we need more info. Here's a really pretty image I found on a home rental site of dark cherry cabs and stainless, with a very nice granite/glass tile combination counter and bs. Look at photos online, in magazines, and on this site, and get an idea of what you like. Pass it on and we'll be happy to help!

If you have trouble visualizing what you'd like but "know it when you see it", then at this stage you should probably just look at as many stainless / dark cherry kitchens as you can and see which countertops and flooring "grab" you.

In my case I knew I wanted simple, natural cherry cabinets and stainless appliances and probably a wood floor, but that was it. Looking at lots of pictures helped me narrow things down, so now I can at least have intelligent conversations with kitchen designers.

I'd suggest going over to houzz.com and entering "stainless steel dark cherry kitchen" into their search box and looking through some of the hundreds of results you get. It's a great source of ideas. After you see some you like, you can probably come up with more words to add to the search box to narrow things down.

You can also go to google and enter "site:gardenweb.com dark cherry stainless" and you'll find lots of threads on this site too. I don't know of a way to limit it to threads with photos, unfortunately.

Now - here is my story - I couldn't decide on the color of our cabinets (or BS for that matter) I had to make a decision and went back to the kitchen store dreading my final decision - thinking I would switch to maple as everything seemed to clash with the floor.

I walked in and went past a display - and said - what is that! It is perfect. I knew it was right but the KD made me drive 30 minutes the wrong way to confirm. I came back and said perfect - So yes, when you see it, you will know it is right!

OK - not granite but do take a look at Poohpups granite - it is gorgeous with the cherry
