Yes.... another sofa bed - there is a reason, honestly! DH and I love sleeping out on our porch, cool summer and fall evenings - like a mini vacation. But it got really old dragging a mattress out there and putting it on the floor, so... another CL sofa bed! I want to be able to wash the covers after being closed up for the winter and found this sunbrella fabric on clearance. The upholsterer did a fabulous job.

Isn't it great?

Also dragged an old Ikea Poang chair out of the attic to see if it works - what do you think? Needs a new cover, white or natural. Too crowded? It will have to be moved to use the bed but it's light, that's easy.

Another hard room to photograph - do you think it works?

Yes, no, Maybe? This is when I worry eclectic is veering into weird.

JUST a thought -- really!!! -- consider painting the chest and the side table in satin black to better tie them into the decor ..... just a thought .... hope you don't mind!

Jan I'm always happy to hear your suggestions! But I an done with a capital D - Done - with black furniture. The table top dust makes me nuts and these windows are open a lot except in winter. I would consider painting the chair frame black - would that make you happy??!! ;-)

enduring: thanks --- the bedroom and bathroom walls are painted same color (as is newly created suite area between them) and this goes a very long way toward harmonious feel. Antique headboard is about same the finish as the bathroom vanity and this helps too. I did the best I could to make the original bathroom attractive, but it was a losing battle. I did not post the photos of mold, cracked tile, rusty hinges, broken tiles and fixtures, and the hated hollow core door. The room never felt clean no matter what I did. Ugh, it just wore me down. Towel bars on door were my only option as I wanted to eliminate clutter on walls. Original idea was to mount towel bar on half-wall, but the resulting clutter and narrowed walkway weren't worth it. Since the bathroom door is closed during showering anyway, it isn't a big deal for me to reach over to the door for my towel. DH takes his towel from door and hangs on shower door towel bar for easier access. Normally the bathmat hangs on shower door towel bar. This process is still not ingrained in our "muscle memory" but we are trying. We mounted the hand towel ring on the wall of the toilet nook, so to dry hands at the sink, I make a half turn behind me to reach hand towel --- or take the towel over to counter and rehang it after drying. Again, hiding towel ring there cuts out clutter. It would make more sense to hang towel ring on a tower beside sink, but I worried about the water droplets hitting the wood tower and making a mess over time. If the vanity were painted instead of stained, this probably would not have been an issue. See the tiny details that must be considered from the very beginning stages of planning?!?! We have two grab bars (Moen) in the shower. GC blocked the studs during build-out to accommodate these bars. Jury still out on whether we could have gotten by with handheld shower head only. During the weeks we were without a shower door (fabricator cut the door too tall; what frustration!), I carefully showered with handheld and grew to love it. Full-time though? I am not sure. Possibly so. Good luck with your plans.

Alison, that was a VERY creative and clever theme! My favorite is also 'Why? Because you wanted one and 2 are okay." I personally have (ahem) 5 wood and 2 plastic. And yes, the first step to recovery is to admit you have a problem. Just make sure you're not cutting alone too often or people will start talking. I too love The Tassajara Bread Book! I love the bow at the end. Maxwell, our green-winged macaw, also loves music and dances to it. A lot of parrots do, but I've never before seen one do the fancy footwork Snowball can do. You can toilet train parrots, but it takes a lot of patience, Maxwell at 14 is still only half-trained, but we're working on it. Thanks for the laugh, triciae.

Phoggie, how wonderful for you!!! I look forward to seeing this progress over the next year or so. In interest of harmony at home, I won't offer up any ideas that might create any issues between the two of you. But when you ASK for input, that will be different. I am so glad to see this is moving ahead. I think, with your new sense of excitement, it will make a difference in the presentation you make to potential buyers of your present home. You can feel "benevolent" to a house that you know you will soon vacate!!! And that might help a buyer make up his mind. Now we focus on getting your current home ready to sell. I'm totally convinced that decluttering and cleaning is the best approach to that. Pack up everything you absolutely do NOT need, and store it off site. Even get a PODS and put it on your new house lot if needs be. SPACIOUS is the word you will present to your buyers. :)

is the white on them wood filler?

how about painting them a light wood color and then wiping them down with a dark stain? finish with a satin top coat to protect them.

I understand about the black and dust/dirt blowing in the windows. most of my windows don't close tightly and i get a lot of that!

You're the one with that neat room! I think I saw a picture of it a couple of years ago and I loved it.

The bed is perfect, especially the yellow. Imagine how cheery it will be come summer!

I love the sofa bed. I'd stain the furniture. Chair seems like it might make things a little crowded, but I'm a fan of open spaces.

The hubster came home for lunch, sat in the chair and pronounced it a great idea since it faces the front and he loves to watch the world go by. So it's off to Ikea to buy a new cushion for it sometime soon.

desertsteph - that's not filler, it's paint. As I was sanding down the large piece in preparation to paint (years ago) I accidentally got to a point that I liked it and just stopped. Then I did the same thing to the small table on purpose - but that one needs to be painted - it bothers me to have 2 pieces like that.

oakley how sweet of you! You made my day!

susanka let's call it cozy - sounds better! And since DH really has an opinion on this one (usually doesn't) I'm going to make it work.

I love the slip cover, it's fabulous. As for the furniture, I would paint off white.

I love it. Definitely not weird! Comfortable and interesting, nice mix of colors and textures. I kind of like the "weathered" wood pieces the way they are... but I can see painting one or both a really dark blue or violet purple.

That is a wonderful porch-- you are lucky!

Wow! Great shape, fabric and construction! I think a white cover (if that sofa stripe is white) on the chair. I really like the two wood pieces as they are; I wouldn't paint them. The finish looks interesting! Sorry but I'm not crazy about the red stripe pillows on the sofa; it seems like it's trying too hard to NOT match.

jlc & dee - you two are killin' me! PURPLE? Really? I just may have to do that but I'm holding you two responsible. Give me a specific color idea so I know we're on the same page.

shee those lights are from Target, of all places. Had to go to every store within 40 miles to get three.

redecor8 you pointed out something that bugs me, too. Those pillows looked great with the old rattan set I had but they're not doing it for me with the stripe on stripe. I don't do 'off the shelf' very well so I'll be trying to come up with something fun, funky, different - suggestions welcome!

Here's the old sofa - just sold it and the matching chair on CL.

Thanks all - I am just loving being out on the porch with my laptop and a cup of coffee, paying bills and playing here ...... cause it's coming to an end weather-wise REAL soon!

The slipcovered couch is lovely and the upholsterer did a great job, especially with it being a striped fabric. I disagree with others re painting that gorgeous dresser - love the peeling white paint - but that's my style!

I think the chair would be great painted white to complement the couch and dresser.

That chest with its rough surface is plays off the Poang chairs so well. If you think you will paint the chest- stop- I'll buy it from you.

Eclecticity - I love that CB! And thank you. But about that chest..... don't hold your breath! I think that piece will be with me for a long time - I rescued it years ago before the garbage truck came. In another room or another house it may get a coat of paint in the future.

juddgirl I hadn't considered white for the chair - think it would be too much when I change the cushion out to white? It may not show in the photos but that cushion is a very faded brick red - doesn't work at all with the other red.
