Speaking of pulls...

I have had the brilliant idea of using some wine crate end panels for the drawer fronts of the credenza I'm building. Some of the panels have a finger hold routed in them. I thought it was another brilliant idea to use those panels as the pull place.

That said, I haven't been able to figure out how to use a pull that would 1) fit in there, or 2) stick out enough to be grab-able. The dimensions seem to be pretty standard: JUST under 4" wide, 7/8th" tall 5/8th" deep?

Anyone have a brilliant idea of their own for me?

Can't help with the pulls, but I love your idea. beautiful piece of wood! Why not just use a router to make the finger pull into an open pull - with no hardware?

Because these are going to be pieced together, somewhat like a quilt, and have to be backed. '

I'm just not that good with a router yet.
I just got a new job, but I'm eying a class at the local WoodWorker's on how to use your router.

You should see some of the very cool, nice panels. They're pine, so I have to be comfortable with the ... patina they'll get, but I think they're odd works of art. Slowly disappearing as vineyards move to cardboard.

Sorta lengthy. DS,DGS and me have a backwoods hunting and fishing cabin with no modern conveniences. A bedside handi-cap stool sans container along with a garden shovel to dig cat holes serves as our restroom. When someone says they are going out to dig a hole, the chore is obivious. There was once a run down Tex-Mex restraunt shortly before leaving the paved road. DS suggested we make the drive back for dinner there sometime. 30 minutes went by without much conversation other than about mud and logs in the road. 10yo GS said"dad,that cafe looks like a place where the food might make a guy start digging holes,I don't think I want to eat there". That was some years back but "digging holes" still sends a clear message if one isn't feeling well or is suspicious of food or water.

Opinions on faucet pull down, pull out or side spray

I like a pulldown. Sidespray is too fiddly and pullouts aren't as massive, meaning I don't get the spout length my shortness requires. :) I have a Kohler Simplice right now as a temporary faucet. It's okay but the spray button doesn't work right. I shoulda exchanged it but I was lazy--Kohler makes a good faucet and I just got a dud. Previously I had a huuuuge Hansgrohe Allegro Pro, selected purely by size (I was having back issues with the faucet spout length in my unremodeled kitchen). It looked like an alien space craft from the original War of the Worlds movie. Great faucet BUT! Like others, I found that the HG spray button wasn't a simple on/off mechanism. You could turn it on, you could turn it off, but if you turned off the water, it would revert to stream. Not a big deal unless you are a Tapmaster user trying to conserve water while washing veggies with the sprayer. I'll probably get another one when I remodel anyway. :) So whatever you get, make sure the spray/stream mechanism works the way you want. What we think is an obvious function may not have occurred to the faucet designers. (The Simplice--if the button acts like it should--is the way it should be. On or off, until you change it.)

Trader Joe's has an excellent selection, I've tried most of them and like them all. The kind I seem to prefer (chunky and salted), as with I believe the others too, is made from two ingredients, peanuts and salt. No sugar, no other additives. Peanut butter is a simple product, the extraneous things that many of the national brands put into it really aren't needed.

I do the same as Annie and Lynn. If the people are your close friends, they usually will seat where they are most comfortable. For example, in the winter, the seats closest to the windows are colder, everyone has their favorite spot. The party you are describing sounds like the people might not know each other, or know each other well. In this case you are trying to set things up so they can have an opportunity to get to know each other better.

Christine...LOVE this idea. I am really a sucker for repurposed old stuff. Couple of ideas:

How about making your own pulls with extra long spacers out of wine corks? Something like this?

or like this?

Or you could use an oversized pull...say 6", which would allow it to be mounted on either side of the fingerhold? I could picture something simple, dark and a little bit rustic. Maybe like this?

Or you could use something with a backplate, that would effectively cover the finger hold (and solve the projection issue)...but maybe that would lose some of the charm. Something like this...or perhaps not so rustic?

Those cork knobs are WAY cooler than my initial imagination!
I've always been "eh" about cork .. art and stuff like that. Don't know why.

You're on the same wavelength as far as the other two pulls. After marcolo's thread about cups, I've been revisiting the idea of something over the rout, or long and skinny like that, over it. I'm leaning towards the latter.

On another note, our 6x6s are delivered on the 11th. Plan Saturday for me to bring them up, OK?

I googled 'recessed drawer pull' and came up with some interesting things. I imagine it might be difficult getting the correct size to fit perfectly, but you might be abe to get something to cover the entire hole and no one would ever know.
