Speaking of peanut butter

What's your favorite brand? I love Skippy Crunchy. I can eat the smooth but don't like it as much. Was reading Glenda's post and have lots of leftover celery from making beef stew for Lauren the other night...and was thinking it was just going to all go to waste when I finally pull it out all rubbery and old...so decided to make some peanut butter and celery for a late afternoon snack. Skippy Crunchy, of course. What's your favorite brand and why? I don't like most other brands, especially Jif and Peter Pan, way too sweet for me.

I adore the taste of Jif, Skippy, etc. but I'm getting pickier about ingredients so I go for the more natural ones, though I don't like them as much!

Yea, yea, yea... Nice of you to be so stereotypical. I started this topic because I wanted some information and got it! The thread turned into a very informative, useful and entertaining piece. Your post is part of the "entertainment!" LOL. And, BTW, here is "the rest of the story;" The squirrels you love kept raiding my bird feeder. I peppered their backsides with BBs hoping they would get the message and stay away. I guess squirrels are not one of the brightest creatures on the planet! So... I got the pellet gun out, gave it 15 pumps and terminated one squirrel. I left his lousy carcass lie in its tracks for a couple of days and haven't had a squirrel problem since. End of story and "no SHAME" on me. As James Brown sang, "I feel good!" BTW, Never did use the POP/PB balls =(

Recipe: 3 3/4 cup white sugar 1 1/2 cup light corn syrup 1 cup hot water 4 Cups creamy peanut butter Boil syrup water and sugar to 295 degrees. Spread peanut butter onto a large sprayed cookie sheet with sides. Pour hot syrup over peanut butter and fold in quickly. Turn out and roll with a rolling pin. Cut and cool completely. It seems like a simple recipe but I will tell you I have a hard time getting it too turn out right every time. I have found that using all brand ingredients works best for me: others use generic peanut butter. Also, it helps to have two people folding from opposite ends of the pan coming together. We tried making this past weekend and all batches didn't turn out completely right except one. Hopefully you are able to get it to turn out because I almost bet this is the recipe you have been searching for. Happy Candy making!

Ah, the lowly peanut. I remember reading a book in grammar school about genius George Washington Carver, who discovered hundreds of uses for peanuts. Then our president Jimmy Carter was a peanut farmer. I went to my local store today and bought one jar of Peter Pan roasted honey creamy peanut butter. For breakfast I dipped apple wedges in PB. Delicious! But the peanut butter did cost $2.99. It had been around two bucks. And I must end with a funny story about my late hoarder Mother, who bought 2 jars of peanut butter because it was on sale 2 jars for $5. Then she went to another store that had the same deal and got 2 more. What does a blind 87 year old woman with no teeth need with 4 jars of peanut butter? In all my life, I never ever saw her eat peaniut butter. Her hoarding went back to the 1960's , when Dad was unemployed and she had to feed a family of six.

I like peanuts. I like them included in a recipe or chopped/ground in a sauce, usually something Asian but I am otherwise like Lars. I do not put peanut butter on anything I intend to eat. I've not even used it on a mousetrap - I've never had a mouse (knocking on wood here). DH would eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches every day for a while. He would make his own. They didn't require refrigeration and he could put one in a zip lock with a bottle of water into one of his engineers vest pockets and had something to eat during his day. Now that he's retired though, he rarely seems to want one. I do like peanut butter cookies. It's a shame I'm not much of a cookie maker. Something about fooling with all those little individual 'thingies' and I would much rather bake a cake or pie. I'd read where someone in training for something strenuous had eaten a few spoonfuls of peanut butter from the jar daily, gaining the weight they wanted. Wanting to gain just a little, I bought a jar a tried it. I lasted about 1 day and couldn't handle the mouth/throat feel.

Trader Joe's has an excellent selection, I've tried most of them and like them all. The kind I seem to prefer (chunky and salted), as with I believe the others too, is made from two ingredients, peanuts and salt. No sugar, no other additives.

Peanut butter is a simple product, the extraneous things that many of the national brands put into it really aren't needed.

I love natural peanut butter, made with peanuts and salt and nothing else.

However, I've been off peanut butter for months after reluctantly confirming that it makes my knee pain worse. I'm eating almond butter now--just as delicious but definitely more expensive.

I love almond butter too! I've been eating that more often lately as I'm trying to limit legumes.

I only use Smucker's Natural since this is made with only peanuts and salt. Most of the other brands have too much sugar and mystery ingredients.

Kath, I buy almond butter at Sam's Club because they have the best price and it's a good product, with only almonds and salt in the ingredients. The almond butter sold in our local supermarkets and Walmart has sugar and palm oil added (like so many peanut butters)--not what I want.
